The sack on that play call was massive. Major hat tip to DeBoer for approving that. That’s a head coach call.

Most of brain said take the 3 but I know in my soul Auburn wasn’t playing for a kick.

I was afraid that the game would end up going into overtime. Thank goodness for Bray Hubbard.

This is why I dont get the Deboer being passive talk. The dude goes for the jugular. Its why he wins big games. Its why he 6-0 against Sark, Lanning and Kirby...with teams that had either equal or less talent

Fricking ballsy call by DeBoer....I was thinking take the 3......Ty threaded that needle between a couple of AU defenders....got to be one of the greatest Iron Bowl moments ever.

Same here. All I could think about was what would happen if we didn't convert.

Wonder if he truly knew how much he was gambling on that call. I have no doubts that if we don’t convert and Auburn goes on to win by 3 that there would have been major uproar. His decision making would also be heavily questioned by media.

What was riding on that call:

Iron Bowl victory
Another loss to an unranked team
SEC Championship berth
Playoff berth

Just a gutsy gutsy call. Glad it worked out.

DeBoer definitely has a bit of riverboat gambler in him. I’m also glad that it worked out. But as you said, things like will bite us at some point.

His viability as the guy running this program. I think if we lose to UGA in a rematch and get fricked by the committee plenty of fans will, understandably, grumble about that inexcusable FSU loss and the offense shitting the bed at home against OU, but the people who actually make the decisions wouldn't hold it against him. A loss and any goodwill he had from those people is gone and it's basically deep playoff run next year or coaching change.

This isn't hindsight talking: I agreed with the play call in the moment. We needed a touchdown, not a field goal. I just didn't think he'd have the balls to do it.

The game winning drive last night sort of reminded me of the game winning drive in 2009 Iron Bowl.

Kane would have brought the house on one of the next plays with AU backed up like that.

I do not mind this but that is my issue is we need more of that during the game. We need to put teams away when we have them down. We are very predictable and vanilla at times. I loved the call but did not expect it.

Quite possibly his job.

Anybody catch the post game presser? When asked about the decision to go for it on 4th and 2, DeBoer said “well, it was 29 yards closer than the last time we went for it down here.”

I'd argue a lot of the reasons we lose control of games is precisely because this staff is very aggressive. Calling a weird reverse flea flicker around midfield when up 17-0 mid-2nd quarter is a very aggressive play call.

However, that is his tendency. Hell, I think that aggression is starting to blow up on us more because that's the book on us. You know the situations where DeBoer and Grubb are going into their bag looking for a kill shot.
