Honestly I don’t really care about his departure.

It’s a distraction, sure. But he’s basically just Scott Cochran at the WR coach position and does not get anything out of the WRs other than their innate talent. I’d much rather poach someone from Ohio State or Texas Tech.

Yeah I mean I like Shep. I think he’s a good motivator. But RW was arguably playing better fresh out of high school. Horton has been good but he was good at Miami. Germie would be Germie no matter who is coaching him.

DeBoer is a former WR, so I think we’re always going to have great WR play under him. Shep might actually be a bettter HC than position coach because he definitely fires the players up. I wish him well.

Not that I trust any Barstool account, but I guess we’ll see on Sunday

Sigh... does UGA and Ohio State have any hireable assistants?

Lanning got hired from Georgia. Schumann will too. Fran Brown. Mel Tucker.

OSU had Chip Kelly leave for the NFL. Their DC left for Penn St. Mike Hartline is in the running for jobs.

It happens to all the top programs. Not like it did under Saban. It’ll never be like that anywhere. But if all we lose is Shep after 2 years then our staff retention is pretty good(knock on wood)

The OSU DC went to Penn State under James Franklin at the beginning of this season. Penn State spent a lot for him.

I don't get any dread this is a massive loss. And I didn't really see him being a major cog in the offensive brain-trust.

This stinks. I’m happy for him and it shows he did a good job to go from position coach to head coach but it stinks. His replacement will almost certainly be a downgrade.

I think it’s a loss from a recruiting standpoint. He also seemed to be one of the emotional leaders on the coaching staff that helped get players amped up and locked in.

However, I don’t know that it’s a huge loss from a player development/Xs & Os standpoint.

It’ll be interesting to see if this affects our signing day (we absolutely can’t lose Morgan) or portal classes, and if he winds up taking anyone from our staff with him to Oregon State.

I bet he takes that analyst Gill with him but Oregon State is not really a desirable job for an assistant on the field here.

Yeah I mean I know a lot of these guys dream of getting their own program to run, but this is just a terrible career move. When you look at financial resources, facilities, recruiting pool, conference standing, etc. Oregon State in 2025 is probably a bottom 5 job in FBS. Surely there was a serious program out there willing to let him call plays and position himself for legit HC opportunities.
