Still can’t believe he’s gone

The BCS system needs to come back and decide the playoff rankings. The “committee” only came along because the little schools bitched and moaned about the computers ranking them appropriately below the bigger schools

As long as there some set up of committees, polls, votes, or any kind of qualifying requiremnt that isnt clearly decided by the rules of on-field competition and game results, college football is not a sport, it's a pageant.
Now everyone smile and waive to the committee and wiggle your tits as much as you can while you walk. Gotta pass that 'eye test!'

Leach was a baw
His best attribute was not just seeing through the bullshite, but calling it out nonchalantly in a humorous manner.
He 'cut through the cheese' on every topic

And yet, somehow we manage to get by with committees selecting the at large spots for the field in every other sport. I think that you have to consider the context that, at the time Leach went on this rant, they were only selecting four teams, so his complaint that it wasn't being settled on the field was a lot more valid then, than it is now, when the field includes 12 teams (hard to argue that anyone outside the top 10 really deserves a chance to play for the championship).

Agreed. Have the BCS choose the best 12 teams. Don’t care about conference, autobids, or G5.

I am ok with committees but you need to focus on people that really understand football and also have the least amount of conflict of interests.
I would get retired NFL coaches or maybe GMs for instance. I'd trust Tony Dungy, Bill Parcells, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, etc. They all know ball and don't really have a dog in the fight and are the most likely to be objective. All humans are flawed and the humans that write a program for a Playoff are flawed too.
Of course this isn't about finding the best system or being fair, it's about money and all of this shite is for show. Fortunately being in the SEC we are on the right side of that equation.

Find that guy who placed his Super Bowl bets based on a pet chicken walking around and pooping on a board with appropriate logos on it and let the bird have a vote.

Why is CFP Committee still a thing anyway?

Too logical for ESPN/FOX.

Ah the old seeding is unfavorable to my team argument. I knew this day would come.
I can't wait for it to go to 16, and then 24 teams.

"Alabama hired Bill Curry instead of Bobby Bowden? Perfect example of a committee." - Beano Cook

People hated the BCS when it decided 1 vs.2 but it is actually a good way to decide 12/16 whatever we land on.
Part 1: The Human Element
Coaches Poll - voted on by coaches
Harris Interactive Poll - voted on by media
Point totals were divided by a perfect score and multiplied by 0.33
Part 2: The Computer Polls
Six established computer polls - the highest and lowest rankings were dropped. The point values (25 for 1st, 24 for 2nd, etc.) were added together for the four remaining and divided by 100. That number was multiplied bu 0.33 as well.
This is what it would spit out right now:
End result compared to committee vote

I honestly think they shot themselves in the foot when they wouldn't reveal the exact algorithm, and back then more (uneducated) people had a general distrust of "computers."
If they had opened it up, made the entire process transparent, and maybe even considered swapping around models as the algorithm improved, we'd probably still be using it.
