Miami isn’t struggling anymore per se. They can still be a team to reckon with in that JV conference. Free shoes is fricked for the foreseeable future.

Billy Napier got a 4th year after going 19-19 his first three

Expectations are not an issue for coaches at Florida

Such great insight in this thread. Where would we be without that dynamic response to an otherwise thought provoking topic?

Pros:

-Still SEC
-The Swamp can be a hellacious advantage when things are going well.
-Location and 4-star / 5-star athletes everywhere pretty much in your backyard.

Cons:
-Expectations. Honeymoon will wear off quickly if you aren’t landing playoff spots and competing for Natties within 2-3 years.
-Still gonna have to compete with, match, and overcome the physicality and grit of top SEC opponents year after year. Those teams aren’t just gonna be awed and roll over at the sight of a high flying offenses.

Expectations were crushed by Napier worse than any other coach before him and it isn’t even close. He was given a vote of confidence for his fourth year BEFORE they went on that end of season winning streak to get Napier to .500.

I guess another pro is that Florida’s permanent opponents are one of the easiest with Georgia, South Carolina, and Kentucky. A con is that FSU could potentially get good again. But a pro is that their athletic department is and has been in serious financial trouble for quite a while.

It’s a good job with a lot more runway than anyone seems to think. But if anyone can screw this up, it’s our man Scott Stricklin. We’ll see how it goes.

You’ve been hanging around the wrong beaches.

Not a consideration for most 40+ year old coaches with wives and kids. Lane would be the outlier.

That’s a lot of pros for a program that hasn’t been relevant for over 15 years.

As an Ohioan, I agree. Don’t know why these old buzzards move down there anyway. The winters up here are basically one week of snow and that’s it. Ain’t like it was in the 1970”s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s up here.

This is a pro.

Elite coaches want to compete vs the best and it being a rival makes it even better.

Then you get FSU at the end of the season.

This has never been a con until society went soft recently.

The way you softies think now, Bowden, Spurrier, Butch Davis, etc would've steered clear of these great programs.

Nut up!

Again the top coached don't run from expectations.
