The SEC - Where coaching careers will go to die.

With the conference expansion, and the new nine game schedule, what experienced coach under the age of 60, and in his right mind, will eagerly come to the SEC unless he is guaranteed mega bucks.
Jimbo, Hugh, Kelly, Eddie O, Sun Belt Billy, etc...
At least Pittman was over the age of 60.
Sankey has created a mess by sucking up to ESPN.
An SEC representative in the playoffs will become statistically 17% less likely to win a NATTY than before Sankey's gambit.

I tried to explain this simple logic before.
The usual response: Only soft pussies will avoid the SEC.

yep, 100%. you can see the same thing in baseball, where all the great coaches are going to the B1G to have an easy road to the playoffs vs. the meat grinder that is the SEC

The sec is in position to get 5 maybe even 6 teams in the playoffs this year, I dont think coaches are going to have that hard of a time getting into the playoffs from the sec.

The big bucks have been there consistently, amd will continue to be.
But don’t discount the competitive nature of someone who can rise to the level of D1 head coach. Just because another coach failed before them because the league is difficult doesn’t stop their belief that they can get it done. The challenge of exactly that and the ego boost that comes with winning in such a hard conference, with a chance at a natty, is a huge driver for many of these guys, likely more so than the money (though I’m sure that’s nice lol).

This is a good observation.
Of course if you enter the meat grinder, sign the right contract and fail, you walk away with generational money and your grand kids won't have to work.

This has to balance out eventually.....all these programs think that throwing millions at football GUARANTEES a championship, but its not realistic. Takes coaching, players, resources and luck(injury bug). There are some coaches that deserved the ax (kelly) and others that didnt (franklin?).

Every year there will be three tiers of coaches:
Safe Coaches (4-5 teams)
In the playoffs or in the cusp
Stressed Coaches (6 teams)
One season away from moving up or being fired
Fired Coaches (4 Teams)
Coaches who did not improve with time and talent. Think Sunbelt Billy here.
Then there is Mark Stoops. Good luck with that.
But you could see 1/3 of the conference turn over every year. Pretty nuts.

I just had this thought yesterday. The SEC has reached a point of being so competitive and with such high expectations, that it’s bound to collapse because no sane coach would want to deal with it.

Adding an additional in conference game will statistically create more 9-3 records.
Your vaunted tOSU will play Rutgers this weekend.
You are a frickin' 33 point favorite over an in-conference opponent.
Can you guess the last time that an in-conference SEC match-up featured a 33 point spread?

Sure and those 9-3 teams will be at the front of the line if there arent enough 2 loss teams for the playoff field. There's already people saying Texas will be in this year at 9-3 if they beat A&M.

Haha! It’s called 10 mil a year for 3-5 years. Live off $500,000, pay taxes and net out after tenure 20-30 million
Now, can I sign up

The pussies crying in here don’t realize that this is not the old one or zero loss teams should be the only ones in a playoff. They blame Sankey the Yankee for this mess, when in reality the television greed is where to put the “blame”. But who cares? It gives other teams a chance. Can’t have that, now can we?

Even if you're killing it in the AAC, you're not making anywhere near SEC money and you could STILL crash and burn and find yourself unemployed. If you get the opportunity to start off at $6M for 5 years with an airtight buyout, you have to take it. Even if it's a disaster, you can always rehabilitate yourself as a coordinator somewhere and climb back up. Even the fired SEC coaches are going to be able to find work if they want it.
