In 1957, Bear Bryant led A&M to the #1 ranking. Then, Mama called.

The Junction Boys had come into full maturity and Bryant had them rolling.
Before the Rice game, he met with Bama and agreed to take their coaching job. The Aggies lost their next 3 games by a total of 6 points, and finished at #9.
Bear Bryant went on to win 6 natties and become so respected that, after a time, even Aggies couldn’t hold it against him when he left them during one of their best seasons ever to return to his alma mater.
Lane Kiffin didn’t play at LSU, and he doesn’t look like the next Bear Bryant.

Lane never stayed anywhere longer than 5 years
Lane never won the big game
Lane never showed loyalty

Players back then didn’t have the distractions of social media. A coach could talk to another school in season and it stayed pretty quiet and didn’t become a big distraction. Plus I think players back then were more tough mentally and could handle distractions a little better because guys were more mature than what players are today.
Kiffin is only a hot name because the players at Ole Miss bought in and have played their arse off for him. Seems to me he could at least wait two more weeks till the regular season ends before turning the Ole Miss program upside down. He really should stay with those guys all the way through the playoffs. He owes it to them for making him such a hot name in coaching. He is really doing those players a huge disservice by doing all of this now and causing a major distraction and disruption inside the Ole Miss football program. Those players deserve better by him.

Well….. youre not wrong. I wanted Lane after this season but if really does leave Ole Miss high and dry during a likely playoff run then I have sime major reservations about him. You dont do that. He had a similar situation in Tenn (not during a great season) and if he does it again that foreshadows that he will probably do it again to us.

Yeah, LSU is looking to hire a guy that has never shown any loyalty to coach at a program whose players have consistently shown over the years that same lack of loyalty.

LANE TO FRESNO STATE CONFIRMED BAWS HE PLAYED US ALL

He is bad immature. I realize that loyalty these days is not fashionable but those OM players took a chance on him. He asked them to come to a place that hasn’t won a lot over recent years and play for him. They showed up and did it the way he asked them to do it. Seems like he could repay them by hanging in there with them and see if they can win a title on his way out. Maybe I’m to old school but it just seems like he owes those guys something more than wham bam thank you mam I’m out of here.

To be fair, he asked that it be kept under wraps until A&M's season was done but someone couldn't keep it to themselves.
He always thought that the information getting out cost A&M a national title.

He phoned in the Washington game... we only won that one thanks to the defense.
That's why he was asked to leave.

Sounds exactly what we need.

I thought Lane might be showing some signs of maturity lately. I guess not after all this.

Bear wrote in his autobiography he regretted it leaking out when it did as it broke his team's heart. Really thought they would have been #1.

That was my Dad's Senior year. Absolutely devastated the team and they really had something special that year with John David Crow winning the Heisman and they were clicking. All fell apart after that.

Unrealistic, and putting the responsibility on others that you should take yourself.
Tell Mama you’ll talk to her once the season is over. Same thing Schloss should have done, with very similar results.
Big respect for Bear, but he should have done what I am sure he would have advised someone else to do. Even if the team wasn’t distracted, he would have been.
