It was often said that OU / Nebraska was a rivalry based upon mutual respect. Nebraska was OU's primary rival for a very long time and it is a real shame that series ended due to greed, essentially. The OU / Nebraska series had it all: many top 5 matchups, triple option vs. I-formation, close games, goal line stands.. the Game of the Century.. Nebraska was a perennial power.

I can't speak for all Sooner fans, but many of us have great respect for the Crimson Tide program and the great success they've had. The bluest of blue bloods.

Those of us who came up in the 70's and 80's recall how OU just seemed to have Nebraska's number, especially when it mattered most. Now we find ourselves in the same conference with Alabama and the series with the Tide is turning out the same way. It just feels very familiar, like Alabama is positioning themselves to become OU's bitch for the next 10-20 years or more.

Anyway. Just reminiscing. Boomer Sooner and Roll Tide Roll.

I think the majority of Alabama fans mostly like OU. I think we have a lot in common.

2 years in so obviously we haven't played everyone yet but South Carolina, Tennessee, and Bama fans have been awesome. Every team had their radicals of course.

It’s been a pretty healthy relationship going back to the home and home in the early 2000s. Sooner folks in Tuscaloosa were great as always. You guys own us, too.

People who think that look on a map and see that Oklahoma and Nebraska are both plains states and just assume they are exactly the same. And translate that to football.

It is really weird to me because when we would go to Lincoln for games it seemed like a different country up there compared to Oklahoma. The terrain was similar... but the people were totally German and Scandy types. In Oklahoma.... our Germans and Scandys are heavily influenced by all the good 'ole southern riff raff types we have in our state.

And I don't mean that as an insult to the SEC types... Just that we didn't get any of the southern genteel or aristocracy types to move to Oklahoma back in the day.

True, and a lot of us may even be related, but unaware, because nearly half of the state of Alabama was Cherokee or Muscogee (Creek) territory before 1830 and the vast majority were removed to Oklahoma. Many of us whose families are from Alabama, and Georgia for that matter, are partially descended from those people.

They think Nebraska failed because they moved to the B1G (not even close to accurate) so they think OU will fail similarly with our move to the SEC.

Moron thinking.

Interesting take. I remember those Nebraska games well, especially the mid 80's games.
Alabama seems like a natural replacement for The Corn. Lots of red, top program, something's probably on the line. Yep.

I don't know but I do know that both states have a higher high school graduation rate than Texas does.

For right now, how ever you want to word it, that's the case. OU has been to Alabama what Alabama has been to Georgia and I really don't know why. It's one of those weird things about sports where a team can "have your number" and you've got somebody else's "number". Who knows? But as a Bama fan, I can't explain it.
