Lane Kiffin by Ross D
If I am Florida there are some quotes in there that would worry me, the day after I was so confident it was a done deal.
Welcome to the world of LK, he will drive you nuts!
“He says he’s more happy right now than he’s been in years — or ever.”
This is the #1 nightmare line.
Florida cannot compete with “the happiest he has ever been.”
“His son, Knox, moved here with his ex-wife… His oldest daughter, Landry, is a junior at Ole Miss — and the reason that he dismissed the Auburn job three years ago.”
If Lane turned down Auburn for his daughter, having BOTH kids in Oxford now is a massive Florida problem.
“What you thought you wanted and what you always pictured may not be what you eventually want… It just all came together here.”
Translation:
The old dream jobs — including Florida — don’t hit the same anymore.
“More important to him… is the financial commitment to the roster… historic success, brand value or even geographic recruiting footprint are no longer the most important factors.”
Florida’s biggest recruiting pitch is brand + money.
Lane saying neither is his priority is a direct warning shot.
**“I didn’t grow up thinking this was the final chapter of the story.
‘Maybe it is.’”**
This one will absolutely melt Florida message boards.
It sounds like a coach preparing people for a long-term stay in Oxford. This is the most “I’m staying” line he’s ever given.
Coaches don’t float “final chapter” language right before bolting.
“He can build a legacy here that he might not have the opportunity to do at other places.” — Keith Carter
Lane allowed this to be printed.
If Lane was planning to leave, he would’ve shut that quote down fast.
Instead, he let it stand — and the entire story is written like a “Lane + Oxford legacy arc.”

No way Lane leaves the ditch.

Damn. I've been a little down in the dumps lately. Maybe I should move to Oxford. It sounds magical.

He can pass on the job this time around and in 2-3 years when FL is open again he can take it when Knox is done playing high school ball
I don’t see FL waiting until the playoffs are done for a chance at lane. I think when OM makes the playoffs and has a decent shot at making it past round 1 they panic and hire someone else.

It’s close to the beaches in Memphis. Awesome.

Then why not just sign an extension and end the circus? It can only be a distraction.
Him winning a natty this year would cement his legacy at OM. If he plans on staying anyway and thinks the contract situation is even a miniscule distraction (its obviously more than that) he can make the whole distraction go away with the stroke of a pen.

Alabama is the job Lane wants.

After hearing about Layla and Lane re-kindling the flame I told my wife that we should cancel our ski trip in the Alps and renew our vows in Oxford.

So, yet another person just guessing.

No one really knows what Lane is going to do, but it’s hilarious watching LSU and Florida fans act like he’s already leaving Ole Miss for their jobs even though both programs are complete dumpster fires right now. One of those fan bases is going to end up embarrassed… and hopefully both

I told her I'd throw out all the jorts in the closet and replace them with seersucker suits. You should have seen the look in her eyes. She was bold enough to ask if I would throw out my Tebow jersey and after thinking about it a while I responded "if Oxford is good enough for Lane, gosh darn it, it's good enough for me."

I don’t think LSU fans are as all in on Lane as the UF fans.
All the smoke seems to be coming from the UF side. Our fans are currently melting over Drinkwitz

Drink seems like a dork
I think OM was down to Drink or Lane when Lane was hired

Why were you confident it was a done deal yesterday? The 247 person? I don’t know why that moved the needle for anyone.
The fact is that even if he were staying he would act the same way to get more resources out of people. Chris Low would still be putting out the rumor he’s leaving on behalf of Sexton. It’s like you all forgot that at the same time.
Similarly I’m not too moved by this either. People are mobile. Families have moved with coaches since forever. The most convincing argument for him to stay to me is actually those family members in the dirt. Everything else can be relocated as proven by thousands of coaches in the history of the sport.

The confidence came from the UF side. Enough that it bothered Ole Miss money people.
It absolutely could have been UF money people trying to force a decision so they could move on or get Lane in the bag.
But there were 2 different national writers reporting on this today. Seems planned.

You’re best selling points are that he’ll save like 50 minutes taking the PJ from Gainesville to Key West instead of Oxford and that his ex wife lived there 25 years ago
