I'm all for schools upgrading their baseball facilities.
Of course, we still have that little league field in Knoxville and the t-ball field in COMO

I like it. Oklahoma, if they put money into the program, should draw huge crowds. They could be a real power in a fairly short period of time if they go all in.
Hell, their softball team is an unstoppable juggernaut.

They DESPERATELY needed that renovation.
Just get rid of the logo in center field. That looks like shite on a baseball field

Good looking baseball stadium.

The softball program had earned their right to get renovations first.
Now it's the baseball team's turn, which is sorely needed as the current facilities are trash compared to the rest of this league.
Good to see progress. Excited to get this done.

Hopefully they don't do a Tennessee/Georgia/Vandy and do natural grass instead.

Damn, how deep are those power alleys?

They will keep the rug. The bean counters like the cost savings.
They are adding only a small amount of seating. Looks mostly like player facilities.
Back in the Big XII days, I used to go to the Big XII tournament in OKC. Games between the Sooners and Pokes would pack the place. At one of these games, I was sitting behind two Sooner fans who were really into the game. At one point, one Sonner turned to the other and asked if he’d ever been to a game on campus. The answer was no, and the inquisitor admitted he’d never been to a game on campus, either. That’s what the Sooners are up against in trying to build a fan base for baseball.

Do y'all still have that all-grass infield?

quote:Shoot, if you go back to the CWS Final in 2022 when we played them, TD Ameritrade was packed but it was 85% Ole Miss fans. Their players were very clearly shook by it and we smoked them. They rebounded well the second game and probably should have won that game but the baseball gods were on our side for once.

It is really weird... but it has always been that way for ALL sports besides football (and now softball). Norman is on the south end of about a 1.5 million metro. But people absolutely refuse to drive down to Norman for games unless an OU team is elite. If they are just "good"... it isn't good enough. The fans won't show.
Covering the current berms down the baselines for seats needs to be done... but OU certainly doesn't need more than a 4-5K baseball stadium.

That’s not a lot of money.
Is it just a facelift?
