What happened?
I'll never forget the call during the Texas game, "razorbacks are just running wild!" When rocket took in to the house.

What happened?

It is extremely difficult to sustain success in a conference as stacked as the SEC.

They beat teams we thought were good at the time but turned out to be not good. Then everybody figured out how to stop KJ Jefferson and they sucked again.

And just a short time later, ike Sam is saying "I didn't know what to do"

That was the moment I knew it was over

The team had a ton of covid seniors on defense and we had an HC caliber coach as DC in Odom. KJ was complete arse as a QB, but Briles was pretty good at scheming around that with the really good stable of backs we had. He also had an NFL WR in Treylon Burks to bail him out.

Basically, it had nothing to do with Pittman. We lost a very savvy and experienced roster, lost Odom, then cracks formed and were never fixed. Petrino has been at minimum equal to Briles, but the defense has never been anywhere near as good as it was that year and that's what has kept us down. Replacing Odom with Travis Williams was ultimately the killshot.

I guess Ol' Sam just couldn't get the Waltons and the Tysons to come over for a cold beer.

That Texas team went 5-7 and lost to Kansas at home. And that wasn’t “good Kansas” — they went 2-10 that season I think. We were bad.

Then KJ Jefferson seemingly regressed every year after and it also felt like every good player of theirs got injured and they don’t have the depth to recover from that.

Beating Soyjak Sark that season was nothing to write home about. Their win over aggy that season was more impressive and still not that impressive in the greater scheme

I'd take him over what we've been dealing with at DC, but I think most of that success was because half the starting defense was 24 years old. The defense took a huge step back and was one of the worst in the conference after the covid seniors left and Odom was still DC in 2022.

I'll pass on HC.

Texas was hot dog water in 2021. We snapped a 57 conference game road losing streak to them that year.

Yep. It doesn't matter how good a coach you are anymore--only how much $ you can flash at recruits.

KJ lost Burks. Burks was the reason for 2021
