Some of these are laughable, or maybe he's trying to make a point that it's going to a tough hire in a really competitive market?
His list:
Jon Sumrall
Ken Dillingham
Clark Lea
DJ Durkin
Eli Drinkwitz
Ryan Silverfield
Brent Key
Dan Mullen
Gus Malzahn
Obviously, there are some prominent names he doesn't even list, but if you strike his last two, believe that DJ isn't a good candidate, and take into account that Dilly Dilly is unlikely to leave ASU, the field starts narrowing fast with some of those left likely to take other offers..
Choosing ONLY from the list above, who do you think is the MOST RIDICULOUS name he listed? Mullen? Malzahn?

I’m sure Mr. Humphrey is plugged in to the decision making process at Auburn.

Why would Mullen be ridiculous?

Jimbo's name keeps getting talked about, too. I'd have to take a break i we hired either of those two.

Dillingham is making $5.8M. Zona St. is in the Big 12. Some school is going to get him in the next few years. I would make him say no.

Just built a dream home there

What’s wrong with Clark Lea?

His QB is in his 6th season. He hasnt really won until this year. Lots of red flags. I'd argue Kill is the one actually coaching there.

Can he win games without Diego Pavia? Who knows? Not sure we should take the chance.

Every bit of his success has come from the NM State crew of Pavia, Jerry Kill, and Tim Beck.
Kill is a "consultant" and Beck is his protégé.
Before that group got there, Vandy was the Vandy we all know.

What a stupid list of names....in reality it will be -
Sumrall
Durkin
Key
Drinkwitz
Or a random up and coming coordinator elsewhere

He didn't have good record before Pavia and he hired the NMSU crew. I'm dubious about how much of his success is because of himself.

Just my ,opinion but what has he done outside of Pavia and Jerry Kill?

The market is not the issue. It is the rep Auburn has for meddling boosters. Coaches worth a damn don’t want to deal with a fat frick yella fella when it comes to staffing decisions, or personnel decisions. You can love Auburn and spend as much money as you like, but you’re loving Auburn to the point it has destroyed the program.

This is such a nonsense argument.
Those guys are all on the offensive side of the ball, and Vanderbilt has won MULTIPLE games where Pavia has played like shite or completely average: Missouri just ~2 weeks ago, and against us last year for starters. Furthermore, Kill and Pavia lost all sorts of bad games while they were at NM State. The idea that those three are now some secret dream-team that are rolling through the SEC by themselves is moronic; because if that was the case then why didn't they steamroll that crap G5 competition they played? In their final year at NM State they lost by 10+ points to a 3-win UMass team (who we killed with Hugh Freeze btw), and also lost to 5-win Hawaii. That is on top of 3 blowout losses to Liberty (2x) and Fresno State. So Diego Pavia couldn't beat 3-win UMass?
Clark Lea was a young first-time HC who was learning on the job and he did improve the team from 2 wins to 5 wins in year two (as you would like to see). Year three was a huge step back, but then he was smart and made the necessary moves to get them where they are now. Pavia and Kill now look like these no-brainer saviors, but that is because you now see Vanderbilt winning. If the NM State trio was as revolutionary as you seem to believe, why did they end up at 2-win Vanderbilt in the first place?
The NM State group is obviously part of the equation, but correlation does NOT mean causation, and writing off whatever Lea has done as if he just puts on a headset and watches Jerry Kill and Pavia win games for him is absurdly foolish. He is still the HEAD COACH of that program and is dictating how everything is run, practiced, and executed on game-day.

This hasn't been a problem in either of the last two hires. Completely overblown concern.
Hugh Freeze was allowed to hire and fire who he wanted. Jimmy Rane certainly didn't tell him to make himself the OC and hire-on Derrick Nix in name only.
We as fans need to stop propagating these nonsense storylines. Every school has booster involvement. You just saw this at Penn State and LSU. LSU has the freaking governor of the state coming out and claiming that he is going to be involved in the decision.

It wouldn't. It's not a stretch to think he could do some damage with a GM putting the roster together.
