Don't forget being kicked in the arse at home by a bad A&M team.

Pay cut plus California taxes. Shew.
There's a lot of behind the scenes drama going on in Knoxville with NIL and revenue sharing. Vitello and Danny White were butting heads.
If Danny doesn't do the right thing and hire Elander, who all the players and fans want, oh boy...

A&M made the mistake of hiring the popular guy the players wanted. You saw what happened there.

He made that job prestigious, to his credit. That baseball program was transformed under him.
Hard to replace that. He was their Skip, he just decided to leave before he had a chance at long term success.
Great coach, douche of a human, happy to see him leave.

Just rip the band aid off and hire a real candidate. That almost never works out for the program long term.

Yeah, that's brutal. No state income tax to highest in the country. On top of a pay cut.

I’d say the jury is still out and I have some patience for him to learn the job, but I agree the early signs have been less than encouraging.

You can give him a show-me year deal and search for a new candidate behind the scenes all next season. It's really late in the game to be looking for a top coach for this season and he is a very involved assistant. He can keep that train rolling into next season, for the most part.

I'd imagine the benefits of that job outweigh a marginal difference in salary

Nobody told him a about the LA Dodgers payroll and deferment pay system they have?

To be accurate, coaches fall under the jock tax rules so he did have to pay taxes in states when they were the visitor. Not sure exactly how that gets allocated for coaches but the players do get checks per game and the income is sourced in the state where the game is played.
But going from about half your salary with no income tax to half being at the highest marginal rate is not optimal.

Couldn't happen to a better progrum. Haha

True. Also played in Florida and Texas.

Every good Southerner from the United States of America.

It’s an MLB job though. And not a bad organization. There’s talent there. Easily could be a postseason team year one. Not like he took the Pirates or White Sox job. And if he fails, he’ll have pretty much his pick of any college job in the country
