Nah now they can start talks with Cig asap.

Losing to NW was inexcusable.

They have to ... If they have a certain coach in mind. You don't want to be left behind in December during a coach and then having no candidates available.

I know Cig is the hot name but I will be surprised if Matt Rhule doesn’t get a call. He played LB at PSU and has been a successful coach everywhere he has been except the Panthers. They are nuts if they don’t at least ask him.

As someone who hates both Penn State and James Franklin, this is fantastic.

I didn’t like Franklin. Couldn’t win the big game and a terrible record vs top ten teams. His arrogance was off the charts when he really had no reason to be.

Now, Penn State fans as a whole are decent people. Years ago, I taught a 12 week training class in Altoona, PA not too far from State College. Western PA has some of the nicest and most genuine people you could meet. I really liked them. Now, the weather really sucks there and the winters suck but again, super nice people.

Florida might not want to be hiring into a Penn State opening year tbh.

Boosters do not like to spend all that money like they did this year and get those kind of results.

Getting a headstart on Auburn in the search. Not very many great candidates out there.

Yet we almost never heard the end of it for firing a guy who led us to three losing seasons and a 1-9 record vs our rivals...

Just a couple other things to consider with Rhule. He's from State College PA... and the AD that Penn State just hired was the AD at Temple when Rhule was the HC there. They have a close relationship.

He may not take it because of only being at year three at Nebraska, but they are definitely going to talk.

I remember LSU fans beating this horse. My dad actually would read some of the posts on Tigerdroppings (how I found out about the site) and it was never that they liked Shula, they were just pissed we were getting Saban.

They championed Ok St in 2011 much in the same way. It wasn't about their chances against Ok St as opposed to Bama, it was "championing the little guy." So transparent.

I can understand it.

Hot take but staying in the 9-11 win zone as a program that has reached the pinnacle I could only take for so long. Thats torture for someone who longs for at least that one championship season.

A championship season in the modern day can bring so much to your program too. It shows the blueprint. Brings more recruits in. Sets a culture in. What James Franklin does is just perpetuate a system that sustains mediocrity. They’re doing the right thing. PSU did not have a good reputation in the football world no matter what way you looked at it. They can recruit better.
