Arky, what does Petrino have to do to be considered for the job?

And yes I realize a lot of Hog fans don’t want him back under any circumstances…..

That's not the vibe I get. I figure if he can get a couple of wins, they're hiring him.

I suspect you're correct.

Four games or more and it's his.
Anything better than losing out, and it's still possible. Provided they keep every game close, don't do the stupid shite that characterized the Pittman era, and provided he has some concrete plan for handling NIL with booster support.

If he can beat Missouri, Arkansas will give him a lifetime contract.

I think hiring him is the smart thing to do. He has a record, and that record includes lots of winning. The rest of that record can be over looked

I don't give two hot damn who he porks, as long as it's legal. It's not relevant to modern ball. It's a leftover from the days when coaches were sculptors of young souls. If they still were, I'd feel differently.
But they're not. And those days are long, long over.

Prove that he lost the lust for women and now his mind is clear and can win football games.

quote:Which I do not get at all. They'll turn their nose up at the coach with the best winning percentage here since we joined the SEC, whose termination had absolutely nothing to do with his performance, but get on their knees for a coach with no p4 head coaching experience. It's arse backwards.

Following the lead of people like that is how we ended up with Chad Morris.

It’s pretty much a given at this point unless they refuse to play for him in protest of firing CSP

They could hire him for a below market contract with a minimal buyout clause and save big $$$.
Only some idiot would let his agent demand a multimillion dollar buyout. Literally no one at the P4 level would hire him.

Player interviews have ranged from "Kinda sucks, but that's football and we all know what we're signing up for" all the way to low grade criticism of how Sam ran things and indications that they like the new system.
Nobody seems mad enough to not play.
Bobby's approach was really smart imo. His case to them was that they have an opportunity to flip the script. If they want to transfer, they have an opportunity to get better film so they will get a better landing. If they want to go pro, same thing. And if they want to stay, they have an opportunity to earn better NIL. Made it practical instead of "rah rah do it for the Hog"

He needs to win some games which will help his case and see how the players react to him.
He’s kind of the ace in the hole right now, if no decent coach wants the job then he’ll be promoted, imo. Especially if they can hire him on the cheap.
Personally I don’t give a crap.

I don’t think he’ll get it in any realistic scenario.
If he won 5 or more, he’d be a shoe in. But I don’t think that happens.
More likely that he wins 3 or less (probably less) of the games remaining. No way they keep him with that.
Too polarizing for the fanbase. From the get go, he’ll already have a portion of the fanbase that hates him and wants him to fail right away (not to be political, but I call it the Trump effect). And our ADs job will ride on this hire.
I think they just get someone out of left field bc it’s the “safe” hire

His winning records at Arkansas were a lifetime ago in current player’s minds if they are there at all and he is 28-28 in his last 5 seasons as a head coach at two different schools. He is a hard coach to play for which doesn’t bode well in today’s NIL, players leave for virtually anything now. The SEC is different and the game is different than even 5 years ago much less 12. He is probably good for 3-4 more solid years but this feels like Arkansas will be repeating the same trend they have been on since hiring CBB and he is doing pretty well at Illinois.

I could see Gruden being the next Arkansas HC.

quote:I find this argument lazy. He clearly still understands the current game. He showed up and made us top 10 in total offense in one year. He improved A&M's offense in his year there.

He won at least 8 games every year but one in his second stint at Louisville, and the one year he didn't was the year his father died. He followed that up by being the first coach to have a winning record in his tenure at Missouri State since the coach they hired in 1986 and lead them to their first conference title in 30 years. He went 18-15 at Missouri State when the prior coach went something like 12-43.
He can still coach.

I don’t disagree but no player unless he has just packed it in would criticize the current coach. It will either go great and Arkansas gets on a roll or it will be a spectacular failure. I don’t think there is any middle ground with Petrino

fair, but a critical part I left out is that the transfer portal is open. So far, afaik, we haven't lost anyone
