Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., joined with Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., in backing the Student Athlete Fairness and Enforcement (SAFE) Act, which is supported by the Big 12, G5, and Cody Campbell would have the conferences pull their TV rights deals into 1 and sell them to the media, promising billions more for everyone and anti trust protection.

My biggest question is how the B1G and SEC generate billions more by sharing their media rights with a group of schools that offer little to no value and have no national brands? No one is watching them now, so how would this make them must-watch television?

You notice the bowl games have quarter filled stadiums during the holidays? The bowl game promoters aren’t taking losses. ESPN still has the obligation to show the weedeater polan bowl or the betty Crocker bowl or some other horseshite game. Corporate p
Sponsors are providing the money lost by lack of attendance and they figure the betting public more than makes up the difference in lost concession stand sales. I guess they might be doing something right because the
Over saturation of bowl games continues unabated for the last 20 years.

Cody Campbell is the billionaire Texas Tech guy, and he has one goal…try and assure the smaller market teams can compete. I’m not saying he’s wrong, I’m just advising that we see through the talking points.

Why would the government need to intrude in this way and then add anti-trust protections? This is about kickbacks, not kick-offs.

Naming rights for bowl games can have some real value for companies.

Poulan is still the first name I think of in weedeaters, and I don't even know if Poulan is still in business anymore!

This strikes me as a way for the lesser conferences to horn in on the TV money that is currently being generated by SEC and Big Ten. I seriously doubt the TV execs have said there will be more TV money under this scenario. Does not make any economic sense.

The Big “Ten” then the SEC decided to become mega conferences. No way other teams/conferences can compete. No way should the PAC 12 have been dismantled.

I guess I am a little confused here. Conferences already pool rights for members. Is this saying that all conferences and G5 schools would be in one pool?

Now if he would have posted Texas could name their score vs Florida, It would be prophetic. Penn St is and always will be a non factor as long as James Franklin is there

Yes, all 136 FBS programs would pool their rights and sell them as one.

The NCAA once tried to sell the TV rights of its members, but the colleges fought them in court and won. This would undo all that which makes no sense.

Of all the lame changes we've seen lately, of the ones that don't directly affect the SEC, this one was the saddest. So many memories of coming home from the bars wanting to extend the party, and, well lookey here, a PAC game is kicking off!

The fact that is all Democrats sponsoring the bill tells me all I need to know that is likely not something that is good for the SEC.

Right but when is the last time they’ve actually passed something anyways? The republicans control all branches of government

The bill would allegedly create a stronger government body for college sports that can enforce rules and put limits on NIL, transfers, and revenue sharing.

I prefer a less government solution and let the market economy decide winners and losers.
I think there is enough ambiguity in player evaluation along with my other variables not the least of which is injuries, that even the wealthiest NIL schools will not always dominate. And at some point there might well be backlash from NIL contributors who determine that the cost/benefit ratio for instance for paying 3 million bucks for a one season player like Carson Beck simply isn't worth the investment.

Agreed. It always seems the govt jumps in and makes a situation shittier than anyone can possibly imagine right before the market works the situation out in the best way possible.

Yep. It's the non-P2 schools trying to level the playing field.

Or put another way, trying to commie a big chunk of the Big Ten and SEC's TV money for themselves.
