I know his injury sucks and it's been good having a breakout QB step in but I really feel for Austin. Hes had to watch a superstar be born after all the heart he gave to the program, giving up baseball, and doing some recruiting for us as well. I hope that he can get a medical redshirt and take over next season.

I love Chambliss as much as anyone, but I am not ready to write Simmons off because Chambliss’s one apparent weakness (arm strength) is Simmons’s clear strength.

Against teams like LSU with killer secondaries but weaker fronts, Chambliss’s accuracy and run skills are exactly what we needed.

I’m not convinced against a UGA or Oklahoma that we won’t need the arm talent to chuck it 60 yards on the fly if our run game gets shut down. Of course that is not worth it if Simmons is still throwing 2 picks a game.

It’s a good problem to have them both

There’s no safe bet with how our QB runs so often that we won’t need him later this year. Get him snaps against Wazzu to keep him sharp.

You never leave a good time to go to a good time. TC is it and it would be insane to swap him out for the sake of Simmons getting healthy and earning the start half the season ago, shite happens. TC didn't plan it but dude stepped up when he got the call. A lot of teams in and out of the SEC would start him tomorrow.

I completely agree that you have to roll with Chambliss. He's a serious contender for the Heisman for heaven's sake. But that doesn't diminish feeling bad for Simmons. It's just one of those things. I hope we don't lose Simmons and hope that we promise him a medical redshirt and an additional year of eligibility.

Simmons and his million dollar salary will be just fine. TC earned the job. If anything, i feel sorry for TC not making bank as a starting SEC qb.

Simmons has him on the arm strength and height, he just has to get the turnovers fixed

I think Simmons will be fine long term. He does have the arm strength, just not the experience that Chambliss has. But going forward, this is TC's offense - barring injury. Hopefully we'll see Simmons getting some reps in a couple weeks to get him experience.

This. Trinidad is the team leader now. He just led us to a victory over the No. 3 team in the country. We ride with him.

Simmons has to understand that.

Agreed Chambliss should remain starter, but CLK is just as likely to say wait a minute hold my beer. Exhibit A - last years mysterious RB drama (especially Florida? game) - Conclusion anything is possible in a CLK/Weiss game of chess.

Full Monty has spoken.

I could see Kiffin starting Simmons at UGA just to throw them off.

Does Chambliss have any eligibility left after this year?

From my understanding, he has one year left after this season.

They would have to petition the NCAA for a waiver.

I’d use Pavia’s attorney

Still a lot of season left. Kiffin has had a happy go lucky lockeroom during his tenure. Im sure Simmons will be just fine.

Where are you getting this? Just curious. I looked into it and my understanding is that any years played at the Division II level count towards the standard eligibility window of an NCAA athlete. It says he played 3 years at Ferris and now Ole Miss. Do we know if he redshirted one of those Ferris years (I will look)?

Damnation. What a dilemma we have on our hands.

Yes, he's a senior. But Chabmliss only played in two games as a freshman in 2022. Division II football didn't establish a redshirt rule until this year, so Chambliss doesn't technically have another year to use. He can, however, submit a waiver request to the NCAA for another season. Or, as Calhoun joked, he could just hire Diego Pavia as his lawyer.
