Why not throw Mike Gundy on the list, just for shits and giggles. Throw him a competitive NIL package and see what he can do.

Wouldn’t be shocked if it is Gruden. He’s got some people in this area on his side and he would probably draw in some big NIL funds

Sign me up. We're always going the safe route or "do it the right way" route. We'll either shoot this sumbitch to the moon or chernobyl.

You have to take a flyer on the first 5 on your list (as well as a few others not listed) and make them say no.
Dear god not Mullen please. I don't understand the infatuation with him.
If you strike out on your top 10 or so candidates, it's nice to know you'll have a Gundy, Gruden, or even Odom that would 100% take the job if offered. These have to be your "worst case scenario" backup hires, but it's nice to know they're basically the floor. They'd still be better than Pittman.

Isn't this what we were told last time before we hired Pittman?
So, what is the repellent?
Lack of booster support/money?
Lack of instate talent?
Location?

My guess is it’s a combination of our toxic administration & our NIL/assistant coaches money pool situation
Which the money issue I’d say is primarily due to our toxic administration
Wholesale regime change is needed, but Pittman will soon be the scapegoat. The fall guy for the ineptitude of our admin, he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place. We really shouldn’t be upset at him, he’s just a symptom of our larger administration cancer. Getting rid of Pitboss is basically trying to fix a bullet wound with a bandaid.

However, I do know a few of the head coaches that Arkansas twitter wants. And they wouldn’t take the job.
Well.....who are they???? Instead of some cryptic bullshite.

Yet you list Odom as a backup option?
Mullen finished in the top 12 of polls at Florida 3/4 years. Finished top 10 2/4 years at Florida. I’m sure Florida fans regret them moving on from him right now.
So just to be clear…you’d accept a coach who is 46-35 overall as a head coach with one top 25 finish (#23 at UNLV) over another coach who is 107-61 and has finished ranked six times, with 2 top 10 finishes, 5 top 15 finishes, and been to what are now termed as NY6 bowls 4 times?
What stratosphere does that even make sense?

I would like to see options explored outside of the hot name 10-20 years ago or any name associated with the Bert-Chaggy-Pittman era.
Basically Pittman was hired because the Bert era was deemed not to be so bad compared to the chaggy years, shocker the Bert tree gave us bert fruit.
I'm not interested in watching teams consistently coming from behind to beat inferior opponents, which is a trademark of the Merlins teams. Yes this better than losing to them.
Ideally I would like to see a coach who's teams show maximum effort, fundamentals, and discipline on the field similar to what you see from the current vandy program or the military academies.
This doesn't mean I would like to have any of those coaches, I would just prefer to see a competent well prepared team that doesn't give up during games or on the season. This is what I would classify as "good coaching" something we have seen in the past 14 years. I don't think that is too much to ask, I believe seeing this would equate to the money problem fixing itself quickly.
The above would take effort on the ADs part by identifying, researching, interviewing, and then selling the fanbase on the hire.
Hiring Saban from Michigan State would be an underwhelming hire for most fanbase's given his record at Michigan State. Urban at Bowling green? No way. These guys were there and could have been had by a program like Arkansas if you had a forward looking administration who would prefer to be good at their jobs.
This process can only begin by Sam announcing his retirement or by being fired soon. Instead HY is going to wait until the end of the season to make the hard decision with Sam before trotting out a shite sandwich name like Barry Lunney Jr before he pulls the "miraculous" by hiring away Odom from P5 Perdue. Retreads from the same era with a underwhelming name picked first and laughable names thrown out to make it sound like HY did a great job. Same results on the field repeat the process in 4-5 years.

I'm terrified this is whats going to happen. The more I think about it, the more it seems likely. The most Arkansas thing to do would be hire BLJ or Gus.
