Mateer is a gamer, Jackson Arnold is not. That is the difference.

Yes the refs called a shitty game. One of the worst I’ve ever seen.

But the difference is gamesmanship. JA missed Cam Coleman wide arse open twice. A gamer doesn’t miss those throws. A gamer doesn’t care if he leads the league in not throwing INT’s. A gamer drops nuts when his team has 4:45 and a chance to drive for the winning score. JA (right now at least) is a more athletic Payton Thorne.

Arnold needs to be taught to put air under the ball and let the receiver run under it for the TD. I was taught to put the arch in the pass when going deep. Matter isn’t that much better. When you hit a wide open receiver down the sidelines it’s a different skill set.

The different is a true Quarterback Coach……Auburn thinks they are not needed. I had numerous times in my Senior year when I BELIEVED mine walked on water. It’s a learned skill…..

The biggest difference in the game was OU had a wink-wink relationship with the officials.

The 1st miss to coleman was due to coleman slowing up for a second after his man was obviously toasted. The 2nd was a bad throw.

Vegetables is a gamer, Durkin is not. When Auburn took the lead, Durkin shite his pants and went full prevent. Chokelahoma takes the lead, Vegetables kept on blitzing.

Im not buying that. He went 5/5 on a long drive to score a TD before half. He ran for the 4th and 10 on the drive where we went up 17-16 with 5 mins left. He has his issues like not seeing the field and his internal clock, but I dont think he he lacks competitive fire.

Durkin and the defense let us down at the end. Durkin bailed and left the middle of the field wide open. He needed to be aggressive and get the ball back. Auburn was never driving the length of the field in 2 minutes to score a TD 2 or 3 minutes to go with as good as OU defense was playing.

I really want to see a replay of that one but can’t find it.

I was not impressed with Mateer.

I think the difference was all those sacks with JA thinking he could run on them like it was Baylor. OK was having none of that. Had he just thrown it away it would have saved yards and put us in a better position to make a first down. Another difference was the false starts.

Oklahoma believes in quick, short passes to beat the pass rush. Auburn, apparently, does not.

I just don't understand it. Coming into this game, literally everyone knew that Arnold's biggest issue is that he's too hesitant to pull the trigger and holds onto the ball too long. Are they not addressing it in practice? Or are they actually working on it and he just panics during gametime and reverts back to it? He just literally has bo internal clock. It seems the repetition of quick releases in practice would develop muscle memory.

Hugh even mentioned this in Fall Camp. I’m not a QB, but I’ve heard that, once this is ingrained, that it’s darn near impossible to fix.

He stutter stepped, broke the guy's ankles, blew by him, then jogged for a few steps before he went back full speed

I'm beginning to believe this is correct. What I don't understand is how Hugh Freeze sees his QB struggling mightily with processing speed and doesn't adapt the play calling to shore up that weakness. I get that football is a chess match so then the defense would pick up on that after a while but it seemed like we didn't even attempt to make life easier for Arnold. Anyone else see that?

Right??!!?? Teams are throwing it short and quick all over the field. Every Saturday. And they don’t have the athletes we do.

Shutup we owned mateer and had him totally rattled for 55 min of the game. Arnold has his shortcomings but putting it on the line doesn't appear to be one of them from what I've seen. He took us down the field for the lead late in the game just like your boy mateer did. Not much he could do on the last drive when our horrific special teams and ol kept getting penalties every play

he completed 16 of his last 17 passes

most of which were quick hitters over the middle, plays specifically designed to minimize pressure from the defense

on the other hand, we set up our QB with slow developing plays against a DL that was dominating the LOS

it is possible to coach your QB into looking Heisman-worthy by calling better plays

I rewatched the allnof Auburn's offensive game this morning. #65, Chaplin and #77, Wright played absolutely horrendous on the OL. Both had costly penalties and could not even begin to block their assignments.

Arnold definitely itely held the ball way too long, ut about half of their sacks/TFL were them just whipping out OL. It was the worst OL performance at Auburn since Bo Nix was running for his life years ago. And its so frustrating because the OL has shown improvement from where they were at the end of 2023. They got better all last year, kept important pieces and, supposedly, upgraded at the tackle positions.
