He somehow built out an entire coaching staff like he was going to be coaching a team in Louisiana

Full of former LSU coaches, Louisiana natives and Coached with LA ties. Some of this carrie’s over from his ULL days but not everyone.

Also everyone had an inflated title

Ron Roberts - Executive Head Coach/ DC
- Was a HC as Southeastern Louisiana for 6 years and Billy’s DC at Louisiana for 2.
-Also former LSU DC Dave Aranda’s mentor.

Jabbar Julukke - Assistant Head Coach - RB Coach
- New Orleans native
- LSU RB coach for 1 year.
- Coached at several LA HS and Universities.

Russ Callaway - OC
- LSU Analyst 2020

Rob Sale - OL Coach
- LA Native
-LSU Alum
- Coached at various Louisiana colleges

Jonathan Decoster - Assistant OL Coach
- LSU GA 2017-2019
-ULL Alum

Deron Wilson - DB Coach
-New Orleans Native.
-Replaced La Native, LSU Alum, Longtime LSU Coach Corey Raymond

Gerald Chatman
-LSU Analyst 2021
-LSU Interim DL Coach (Spring)
-Tulane DL Coach

Billy Gonzales - WR Coach
- LSU passing game coordinator
-He is more famous for being the WR coach on those Urban Florida teams to be fair

Obviously some carry over from
ULL but it’s a shocking to see how few have any ties to not just UF but any Florida college or the state of Florida.

It’s also crazy he has an:
Executive HC
A DC and 2 Co-DC
Assistant Head Coach

Florida doesn't tend to recruit a ton of guys from Louisiana. They tend to focus more on Florida players.

They have 3 players from the state of Louisiana on their current roster. Hiring assistants with recruiting connections in Florida, Georgia, Texas and Alabama would probably do more for their team.

he was also on Mullen’s staff
Youre main point is spot on but this example doesn’t support it

totally agree. If UF kept the top 20 players in state they would be top 5/10 every single year.

I think the staff overall is fine. Except he calls his own plays. Was prolly a little over his head moving front USL to UF add to that playcalling. It’s too much and it’ll cost him.

If he gets another P4 gig he should give up playcalling.

Keeping guys in-state isn't enough as Miami and FSU exist as programs.

They need to get their share of Florida, a smattering of highly ranked Texas guys and beat UGA in South Georgia along with a smattering from elsewhere.

In the past for whatever reason they've gone more for Alabama rather than LA for that last category (probably because it's closer) but they could be less state specific and just go gulf coast in general. But for them to be a national title contender they NEED to dominate south Georgia and/or Florida north of Orlando (they can live without southern Florida)

Billy intentionally gives himself that 1st day of Boot Camp look is questionable.

Other fanbases were clamoring that Sunbelt Billy was going to raid Louisiana for talent.

He hasn't signed a Louisiana recruit since 2023.

His highest rated players from Louisiana were the No. 16 recruit in the state in 2023 and the 15th best in 2022.

So Louisiana guys can't coach outside of Louisiana.

Got it.

Trust me, many of us were wondering the same thing when this idiot arrived and went all out in LA connections vs more FL.

Dumb arse.

Also Billy Gonzales started out at UF before going to LSU.
So as CAW said, he doesn't fit this one.

I'm trying to think of one who has had any success in college football. I'm having trouble thinking of LA born coaches who coached outside the state.

Orgeron at Ole Miss
Napier at Florida

Who am I missing?

I don't think Florida has enough NIL money to afford that.

Just a guy named Eddie Robinson.

But as I said, his success was limited to Louisiana.

You made a point about LA guys coaching out of state. Robinson would not qualify.

The only ones I can think of are Orgeron and Napier. Was trying to think of any others.
