re: LaNorris Sellers is a better QB than Nuss and its not even freaking close

I hope people aren’t betting their mortgage money on the cocks. USC will fail spectacularly this season. I don’t understand the hype, at all.

Not surprised at all. Cocks weren’t beating Vandy with or without Sellers. He is fool’s gold. The surprise is that Nuss has been very average.

It’s not him, it’s the program. He should’ve kept his UVA or Syracuse commitment.

Nuss has struggled a lot more than anyone expected, but I think he is still a very good QB. It’s only a matter of time before the LSU offense starts to get things going. They have a couple of weeks to figure it, fortunately.

Beamer hired a OC (Shula) who refuses to use his running ability and makes him stand in the pocket with one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever seen in my life. Sellers has no chance to succeed

If you watched Nuss last year, he wasn't a world beater either. He got overhyped. SEC has had so many overhyped QBs this season.

He also has a loss. Nuss doesn’t.

It's literally this.

Sellers is hamstrung by a very poor OC who wants him to be something he was never designed to be.

SC's season is already a disaster, and it has everything to do with Mike Shula.

That’s a head scratcher because coaches are making a shite ton of money based on performance. And if he doesn’t see that Sellers is best used as an athlete at QB, then Shula is a complete moron. But SC brass should have known that already

Sellers has been good. His offensive line, not so much. Why do you think he got concussed on Sat?

Should have. But didn't.

Beamer values continuity, even when a major change is needed. Loggains was the OC last year, and designed the offense around Sellers and Rocket Sanders. But he accepted the HC gig at App state before the bowl game. Shane promoted Shula, who was an analyst/QB coach after Loggains left, without a search.

The bowl game was a mess, but whatever. It's just a bowl game. But since then, the fruits have been crystal clear: Shula can script an opening drive, and do it well. But once the game actually begins and unfolds, I think he's terrified, and cannot "feel" the game. As a result, an offense with loads of talent an ability gets stuck, and can't get unstuck. Looked that way in the first half against Vandy (opening drive TD, crickets from there), then Sellers gets knocked out, and Doty is serviceable, but not good enough. The offense just doesn't work right now.

It's a season that had tremendous promise. But it's all for naught if Shula doesn't either have serious handcuffs put on him, or Beamer strips him of play calling duties.

I expect Mizzou to win by 21+ on Saturday. Nothing against Mizzou (that's a good football team), but we won't see SC realize its own (considerable) potential under this offensive staff.

He was hit in the head and the Vandy linebacker was ejected for targeting.

The lb had a free run at him.

Pinkel and Christensen did this with Brad Smith in 2004. Smith started the season in the Hiesman talks. The staff decided to go 5 wide and put the offense on Smith's arm. Smith underwhelmed from the pocket and had 500 rushing yds after running for 1029 and 1400 the previous two seasons. They lost to Troy and had a 5 game losing streak in the middle of conference play which included a bad home loss to kU. Making a bowl the year before was the only thing that saved his job.

That’s pretty wild.

There was a ton of criticism of Shula when he was at Bama for running the most vanilla offense in the history of CFB.

But then he went to Carolina and was OC for Cam Newton so I assumed he was going to run that for Sellers.

I can’t fathom trying to make a guy like that run a pro style offense unless he’s injured or they promised they would develop him as a passer for the NFL.

The obvious answer is just to tell him to run the Cam Newton offense or find a new job, but realistically if the OL is as bad as you say it might just not be in the cards this year.

Free money on -13.5 currently. I don't bet but I am considering it.

To be fair, that's due to the defense, not Nuss.

Beamer

Is the problem. He’s hired 3 different OCs and they’ve all been arse. He’s been here 5 seasons and our offensive line is no better than it was during Muschamp’s tenure. The only thing separating the two is Rattler and Sellers are significantly better than any QB that Muschamp had.

Being slightly better than Muschamp puts him squarely in D tier. Muschamp is the second worst coach in South Carolina history behind Fat Brad and Beamer is marginally better than him.

It's funny how Shula is getting blamed, and the complaints are the same complaints Bama fans had with him when he was at Bama. But we were trashed for canning him by some of these same fans. The irony is rich.

To be fair, when you guys canned him he didn’t have a record of being arse yet and you followed him up with Saban. This is the second straight failed NFL OC we’ve hired. Eventually you have to figure out what the commonality is and fix that. Beamer needs to find a young and hungry college OC with some skins on the wall or find another job. But with our luck, the cheerleader fanbase in Columbia will keep him around another two seasons because he kisses hands and smiles while being terrible at his job.
