Has any athlete ever received as much undeserved hype as Arch? (High School & P4 Stats)

I don't dislike Arch. I think he seems like a cool guy. I dislike the media press he is receiving. I can't recall a player who hasn't done anything receive as much media infatuation as him. It's to a point that it is hive mind.

Arch's stats vs Power 4 teams who went above 2-10:
24.4 QBR. That'd ranked dead last 136th of 136 FBS QBs. He had 12 carries for 26 yards around 2.2 ypc.

Being from Louisiana I am very familiar with his high school and schedule. Newman plays 2A mostly lower level, smaller enrollment, undersized kids high schools. There were 2 legit schools he played though. U High who usually has ESPN 300s and is located on LSU campus, and Many High School who just happened to have 2 ESPN 150s at Linebacker that year.

Arch's stats vs U High:
8 for 21, 38% completion rate, 96 yards, 2 INTs, 0 TDs, 1 Fumble lost returned for a TD, and 1 Pick 6 on him.
He had 19 carries, 42 rushing yards, 1 TD. Averaging 2.2 yards per carry.

How did Arch do vs Many HS who had 2 ESPN 150s at LB?
8 for 20, 40% completion rate, 90 yards, 2 TDs

Arch stats link: LINK

Paul Finebaum thinks he's a generational QB with those 2A High School opponent stats? He averaged 8.5 yards per attempt at the 2A High School level. He averaged 2,100 passing yards per year. These stats above aren't close to #1 overall recruit level. More like a 3 star in my opinion.

Compare that to Jujuan Johnson of LSU that year who became a WR at LSU, JuJuan had 2x the amount of passing yards his Senior high school year as Arch and averaged 11 ypa while Arch was at 8.5. How can one expect Arch to go 8+ ypa in the SEC when he was at that 8 ypa level in 2A high school?

The Mannings do an excellent job of making themselves seem like "one of us". When Eli and Peyton get on Monday Night Football, they shoot the shite. Talk like a group of normal dudes would gathered together for MNF. They have molded Arch's personality to seem like "oh he's just one of us", but he isn't. Peyton and Eli aren't going to be sitting commercial next to you on your next flight.

Texas is being ranked #1 despite having the 2nd lowest returning production amongst Top 25 teams, having lost 2x to UGA, 1x to OSU. I listen to XM Channel 84 where there is actual college football knowledge instead of AP voters. They are all former players which I'm going to spell wrong, but like Bobby Carpenter, Dusty Dvorcek, Danny Kannel, Rick Neuheisel, Jacob Hester. Great content. These guys had Texas ranked 6th or 7th for the reasons I mentioned above. We know the reason Texas is ranked #1 is because the media has hive mind and did it because their infatuation with their QB. There's just no reason to rank #1 considering the mass exodus of players, and there were 2 teams that were better than them last year. I'd see a case if they had returning production like Clemson.

If there is 1 thing I dislike in College Football more than anything other, it is teams and players who are overrated. I say the same about Penn State now. Penn St James Franklin team is 1-15 vs Top 5 teams. We all know at some point, they will do what they did in the past. Luckily, the preseason polls don't mean much.

I am a transplant living in Texas, so I wish the media would see this objectively. They want Texas to be good so bad. I just read an article on ESPN both having Texas winning the Nati

Where ever Manning went he would be getting the same kind of attention.

I also think the two year build up with him playing limited snaps has added to it. If Ewers had gone pro and Manning had been the starting quarterback last year, I don't think the hype would be this much.

You're claiming it's the Texas media that's going bonkers, but I don't agree. Manning Mania is in full effect, and it's all across the nation. People are either weighing in regarding how awesome he's going to be, or they're going full throttle similarly to how you are here that he hasn't done anything yet, and frankly will be seen as a bust if he even has a decent season.

I do think there's a bit of extra juice from fans who for whatever reason would enjoy seeing Texas fail, and I get that. I like to get petty too about my football hate. It helps to create a rooting interest that doesn't involve gambling. I'm not someone who "just wants to see a good game." I want to have a rooting interest, and more often that rooting interest evolves out of hating a program, a coach, or a specific player than it does a program I actually enjoy rooting for. I don't want to see a good game. I want to see the team I'm rooting against annihilated and embarrassed.

If Arch was playing for one of these teams he would add to my reasons to root against them, simply because of all the attention he's receiving. As you say, very little of it because of his limited output on the field.

On the other hand, as a Texas fan I've found this incredibly entertaining.

This definitely deserves a thread as I can't recall such an overrated player, ever really. I love making people aware of the truth and hate overrated teams/players. Have no problem making one every couple weeks and will continue to do so.

Btw if you're on here on a Friday night, I can say the same thing to you.

My posts are the most accurate on here as I am highly detailed and dig into the stats. It's not just a general "your team sucks", with a response of "no your team sucks" type thread. I get very detailed, analytical to get to the very bottom of what the truth is. In my opinion, that is the only way to do any analysis on anything college football. Get into the numbers.

In December 2025, I will bump this thread to show you that this analysis was spot on. If you're right, I'll eat crow. I just can't see after looking at his full body of work between Texas and his high school stats and level of competition in high school that I'd be wrong.

He’s looked good in his limited action. Hes naturally going to get undeserved hype and honestly it seems like he’s handled it decently well, given the fact no one can shut the hell up about him. It’s not everyday a 4th generation QB of HOF lineage takes the field.

Anyone hating on him has the same basis of people anointing him the next Heisman - which is pure speculation.

You seem… A bit overwhelmed by this Arch guy.

Perhaps you should lay your head on your desk and take a moment.

He seems like a likeable player with a good skill set. I think a lot of the hype is he’s on the most loaded roster in CFB so he will naturally succeed similar to the KSU kid at Ohio State this last year.

Actually do something before getting hyped. The very best he can possibly do is meet expectations at this point. The odds are high he will be average rather than anything special.

I like the Mannings, arch did it right and sat and learned. I think he’s going to be good but that doesn’t mean he’s an nfl HOF QB. Texas always gets undeserved hype so it’s really not surprising.

It seems like a good bet he will be pretty good....You know...I guarantee both Manning's gave him drills to do(list), told him how to watch gametape, how to read defenses, etc

I've always kind of chuckled at the people who make a big deal about Arche of him playing 2A ball in Louisiana.

His uncles played 2A ball in Louisiana at that same school against that same crappy competition... and they did all right.

Sure, Ach is overhyped. How could he not be being from the Manning family? But the guy has had the best training you could ever have despite having played for a small HS.

Not only that. The guy is 6'4" and over 220 lbs... has a strong arm and can run. He is going to be good. It is really just a matter of how good.

You didn't mention that he will be playing behind 4 new offensive lineman as well. Chris Sims got the same treatment and wasn't very good.

Ron Powless was the most over-hyped QB ever to come out of high school. Signed with. Notre Dame. Distinctly remember NBC commentators saying it wasn’t a question as to whether or not he would win a Heisman.., the real question was how many would he win?

He didn’t do shite and probably most on this board have never heard of him.

He is a Manning that plays on the most hyped team every year. Sankey is probably beating off in the corner - daily.

You wrote a damned novel about the kid. Did the media make you do it? You're the problem.
