Due to the lack of "splash" in their initial year in the SEC does OU run the risk being seen in the same light as Mizzou. Like Mizzou, geographically and to some extent culturally, they aren't really a natural fit in the SEC. Yes they have a strong lineage, but it's not a Southern lineage. One has to wonder if given few more years of mediocrity they could become one of the more obscure teams in the super conference.

With SMU, TCU, and now A&M being able to crack the DFW recruiting lock the Sooners had on the area, it’s gonna get interesting.

There history excludes them from being that insanely low.

OU recovers just fine from the slow start.

However, are they going to win the sec like the did the big12? No.

They won 14 times in 20 years. That’s insane, even with a weak conference that’s still crazy.

But “recovering” from 2024 to me just means they they are still a destination program for many high school recruits, and they can be proud of competing for some future playoff appearances as the importance of the sec championship dwindles.

Mizzou has made the SEC title game. We will likely never see OU accomplish that. Oklahoma is on an express train to loserville. Now that they are no longer one of the few programs paying players, and since they are a piss poor academic institution (in a misrable place) who can't spend with the big boys, there is no longer an incentive for top players to attend. This is why OU is banking its future on a Washinton State QB who ended his season with consecutive losses to New Mexico, Oregon State, Wyoming and Syracuse. Venables will be fired before this season ends and no accomplished coach will take this job. It's over for OU.

Oklahoma has won 7 national championships. Mizzou has a bunch of rocks in their end zone.

You forgot Texas Tech now has a booster that has their NIL among the best. They just had a great portal class.

This topic has been discussed, but the comparison usually used was Nebraska.

That's a bad comparison. Mizzou came in hot.

More like the next Arkansas. Former SWC power, became an also-ran in the big bad SEC

Switch SWC with Big12 and here we are

I don’t think they’ll make the SECCG like early Arkansas though.

Yeah. People seem to forget that.

That could prove to be a better comparison, but the jury is still out.

Mizzou has made the SEC title game

In an incredibly feeble SEC east those years where the West was unquestionably the king daddy of the conference and pretty much any SEC west team could have won the east. Top to bottom.

OU has played two challenging schedules back to back so far. Hell… has Mizzou’s SOS been in the top third of the SEC since they joined? Top half?

Mizzou had the toughest schedule in CFB in 2012, our first year in the SEC. Five top 10 teams and 3 bowl bound non-conference teams

When the schedule eased up we made two straight SECCG

If by next Mizzou you think they’ll make the title game twice and have a 12 win season inside their first 3 years in the conference then yes they could be. If they do none of those things and are instead mediocre sounds more like Nebraska or Colorado as far as expansion teams go.

Mizzou and Texas came in and won almost immediately. The other expansion teams not so much yet.

How much money does OU have compaired. That is what it will boil down to now. What schools will have big boosters step up.

OU couldn’t afford to buy itself of the Big 12. That’s why there was a 2-3 year delay.

OU has ONE down decade in the modern era. The only other program that can claim that is Ohio state. That’s right OU has been more consistent than Alabama for DECADES. It’s laughable you simpletons can’t grasp the actual consistency this program has maintained. One bad coaching hire doesn’t affect OU in the slightest throughout history. 7th most valuable program in the country and a top 8 football revenue. Mizzou is a nobody program.
