He has been anointed by the burnt Orange nation as their savior. To me unrealistic expectations from a kid who has never played against top level competition. But a realistic look. He has never played against top level teams in high school or in limited action in college. He couldn’t beat out an injured 7th round draft pick during the Texas playoff run. I really almost feel sorry for him. The rabid weasel Texas fan base will turn on him in a second after a bad game. My question is: why the preseason Heisman, Natty hype for a basically rookie QB? Does the Texas fanbase really think he is that special?

You do realize Texas doesn't actually control the media, right?

They had to replace 4/5 OL starters AND just lost their starting OT for the season. Doesn’t bode well for a first time starting QB

For me, first of all, I don’t think the kid deserves any hate because he’s certainly not doing anything to draw it to himself other than just existing in this situation.

I do feel that since he is unproven at this level he is way overrated until we see how he performs running the show. I think he’s handled the hype well though. He certainly has a solid family to fall back on.

Manning is certainly the most hyped player in CFB …. but everyone is waiting to see the goods.

Does he have “it?” ….. hard to say, but I’m looking forward to seeing the kid show out

We shall see. That's about the best I can do. I bet he will do just fine. He's just got more focus on him because of his name.

It’s not Texas. It’s the national media.

For once can we stop talking about this kid and let him play a full season first.

If there’s anyone in CFB who’s prepared it’s Arch. Hard to be overrated

I agree the Heisman talk is premature. The horn offense looks to be a year away from a serious title run, they are mostly freshman and sophomores and there is no experience on the bench if Manning has to leave the field.

So the OP's assertion that Arch is overrated is probably right given the hype but it doesn't mean Texas is not a contender to make the playoff.

After the Ohio State game UT's schedule for the month of September is three cupcakes and a bye before a match up with Florida, plenty of time to get the offense seasoned for conference play.

False. We have other guys with a lot of starts + it wasn't our starting OT that got hurt. He was competing for a starting spot.

Either way, I don't expect Arch to be a world beater right out of the gate.. I think he has shown to be quite good, and I think he might have been better than Ewers last year. I know for certain that his deep ball is a lot better.

Arch will make mistakes.. hopefully he learns from them and keeps getting better.. and hopefully he can stay healthy.

Why is it soooo difficult for some people to understand that a QB with the last name of 2 Super Bowl winning QB’s, who are media darlings, and have their own Monday Night Football Show, is gong to get unbelievable hype??

Arch has unreal pressure and every single time I’ve watched him in an interview he exhibits grace, class, humility, and a team first attitude. I’m rooting for him. Definitely want to see Texas beat the hell out of Ohio State.

Didn't LSU also lose 4 starters on the OL?

Looks like you're predicting a pretty good season still.

He wasn't going to start but it's still a bad loss this early on.

One thing about it, he’ll be tested right off the bat. I doubt he’ll be put in many positions to fail which would be smart. Hand off the ball, make a few runs and short safe passes and try to scrap it out. If the defense is solid he should be fine.

I don’t think he’s overrated but of course he is overhyped.

We'll find out this year. Hell of a first game he has. Can't wait to watch it.
