What is the whole point of revenue sharing if collectives aren't going away

Primarily it's going to let smaller schools who don't have big boosters to draw from to use their revenues to pay their athletes.
For the bigger universities, all it did was raise the minimum wage.
ETA: The clearing house totally blew it in this regard. What they should have done was gotten all the receipts of the last 4 years, and use those numbers to determine what the market should be. Instead, they tried to be the bully right off the bat and all they got for it was a bunch of egg on their face and lost their credibility in the process.

The Alston decision from SCOTUS, especially Kavanaugh's opinion, makes it crystal clear that no rule, guideline or law is legit if it limits college athletes ability to make money from their own name, image and likeness.
The recent House settlement created a clearinghouse, run by Deloitte, to audit & verify all NIL deals, to make sure they are legitimate and inline with market conditions. However, any lawyer worth a damn, even one that got their law degree from Ole Miss, could challeneg their decision in court by busting out Kavanaugh's opinion, and they will win.

There are still "guardrails." The collectives have to be reviewed by a "clearinghouse" or some such - to prove or trace the integrity of NIL - I guess???

A smart monkey could have figured out that the clearing house was doomed from the outset. It was a piss poor idea to begin with.There’s no way they could govern the “guard rails” let alone sift through all these thousands of deals coming in at one time. This is the kind of dumb shite that has ruined the sport I love. The last ditch to save the sport from imploding is collective bargaining and a draft. Just like the NFL.

I'm just in shock so many people though the rev share deal was going to change anything. People really thought that schools investing 25-30M in football rosters were all of a sudden going to be good with being on par financially with Minnesota or Washington St? Really?
All rev share will end up doing is adding 15-16M to everyone's roster budget. Superstar players will see a huge increase in the amount promised to them, and the 40th and below players on the roster probably won't notice any difference at all.

The schools that did the most bag dropping love to whine about NIL. frick 'em. I love the new era. My school can spend what it wants legitimately. Sorry paying $25k to an uncle no longer gets you that recruit you wanted.

Agree with this and contracts that keep kids in school for longer than 1 year rentals.
If you want to be paid like any other career then these kids can have employment contracts.

Once again, NIL is a contract between the athletes and the sponsors. The schools are not party to the contracts.

Notice how Texas gets a boost in recruiting once boosters paying recruits becomes legal? I know you went to a third rate school, but maybe you can put two and two together on that one.

College football is basically NFL-lite now. The things that made CFB special are gone. It's really sad to see.

Just stop with this stupidity. I bet you didn’t know that 1 Our Lady of the Lake is one of the largest hospitals in the state. It’s not a children’s hospital. 2 OLOL is one of the largest sponsors of LSU Athletics. So… just our 2 & 2 together.
You only need a couple of very rich boosters to fund a football program. Todd Graves could take money out of his petty cash fund and give LSU $100 million a year alone. Shaq gives LSU $10 million all by himself.
