The vols were defending national champion and 10-0 on the season and nobody scored a damn point on them in all 10 games. The title was awarded before bowls and AM somehow won it and a deflated vols lost the rose 14-0 to usc which doesnt matter for this. Highly suspicious championship season aggie. And this is coming from bama

Did UT’s best players sit out their 14-0 loss to USC in the bowl games in preparation for the draft?

Dude, it was before people were wearing facemasks. This ia ancient history. Let the aggies have this. Besides 1939, all A&M has is Johnny Freebase beating Duke in the chicken bowl.

TCU were your national champions for 1938, not Tennessee.

They also had that big Covid Orange Bowl victory. They squeaked by a gutted UNC team in front of maybe 500 people.

We shouldn't sell them short.

College still used leather helmets back then.

Also, the television was not a common household product yet.

Scores were transmitted via telegrams.

If a player from that team were alive today they would be over 100 years old.

If ture seems like the Vols should be pissed. However, I agree with my fellow Longhorn on this thread, Aggies should have one at least. Its tough to have 0 natties anyone on this board has never seen. Texas has underachieved significantly and I have at least seen baseball and football natties in my lifetime.

Yeah doesn’t really make sense that Vols don’t claim the title that year. We played more ranked teams than Aggies did in the lead up to the natty selection pre bowl game. We were also ranked number 1 most of the year before randomly being moved down in the rankings despite winning. Doesn’t really make sense

Upon natty selection:

Vols were 10-0 with 2 ranked wins and 4 weeks ranked at number 1

Aggies were 10-0 with 1 ranked win (not even against a top 10 team) and one week ranked number 1 at the end of the season somehow

I don’t understand what the voters were thinking lol. Guess Aggies needed a gimme title

That is a bogus banner because it also says they won it in 2003.

Most of the titles pre 1980s barely make sense most years.

If you look back there's undefeated teams that end up ranked #6 not to mention the teams awarded championships that would then lose their last game.

The pre 1960s championships are almost a blind dart toss.

You have to be aged 68 or older to remember the last time the gomers were ranked number 1 in the nation.

I'm guessing Serraneaux's great-granddaddy kept writing letters to the editor and annoyed everybody.

Jamal, you, as an Alabama fan, should not question an AP national title of another program when your school proudly displays 1941 (AP #20) as a legitimate national title. You need to understand how things worked back in the day. Many programs in a given year have legit claims to a national title, but AP and/or UPI can only choose one.

I Honestly think if USC and LSU played that year USC would win. USC from 2003 to 2008 was crazy, and the amount of mainstream celebrities they had on sidelines for every home game during that time has never been seen again in CFB. I remember ppl hated USC because they was so flashy with money and very arrogant. USC at that time did used to look down at everyone else including Texas because they was from Cali. And Cali at that time was the best and couldn't be touched. I remember they said ppl from Texas was country and slow.
