Better watch your sixes, this is a huge opening. Personally I hope Bob Stoops takes it (this is a joke people lol). But Joe turned the program around after disasters in the 90’s. Not every decision was good but most were. Hired Bob and Patty. Has good coaches in place in about every sport both men and women.

quote:

Pete Thamel @PeteThamel Sources: Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione will retire from his full-time role during the upcoming school year, bringing an end to the longest-tenured run for a current AD in major college sports. Upon the hiring of his successor, he will stay on as athletic director emeritus.

quote:

The timing of the move will allow OU to make a hire in the upcoming months and transition with Castiglione on campus.

quote:

His tenure has seen 28 national titles, OU’s move to the SEC and the hiring of Bob Stoops to run the football program. There’s been a football national title, five Final Four runs – two men’s and three women’s – and eight softball titles.

Bob would never take it he’s too old. Here’s a list of names but I don’t think Zac has enough experience. Kirby is the best choice

Travis J Davidson

OU should’ve stayed in the Big12.

Should have retired before last academic year. It was clear in Year One that Oklahoma was not up to snuff in the SEC.

Travis Davidson is just a restaurant owner and his claim to fame was being the guy that loaned Riley a meat smoker he never returned.

He's not an insider. I don't know why people treat him like he is.

This is the reason Zac Selmon took the MSU job - he knew it was happening soonish and wanted the experience on his resume

He’s going to be AD until 2028. After a year and once someone is hired he’ll be AD Emeritus

"A search for his replacement will be led by Randall Stephenson."

Letter from OU president Joseph Harroz:

As for Travis Davidson and others - I just posted his listing as it looked good. There is no real insider - rather like all programs everyone knows someone and pieces are stitched together. I belong to zero pay sites and get all kinds of free info from various people. Over time you kind of know whose info is more solid than others but not one source is the defacto source which is why its good to learn over time who has decent info. Travis wasn’t posting insider info - he only posted his speculation/guesses on who he thinks might be good candidates.

I personally think OU may go outside of norms and hire a private industry leader. Just a hunch based on changing landscape and the way college is now a big money player paying sport. Lots of things to navigate compared to old days.

A name that would never happen but is interesting - Sam Presti. What he’s done for Thunder in a small market team is quite amazing. He has to work money and complicated salary caps. He’ll never take it but his wife is an assistant coach for the women's gym team which many don’t know that. But he’d never leave his current job to take on the college minefield.

All the names mentioned are just pure speculation. This is going to be a long search might not be decided for another year or even longer. I like that it won’t be rushed. Whoever it is will likely have to replace some big names like Patty (softball) and even women's gymnastics HC once they retire. Even if Brent is successful this year the new AD will have to replace him once he retires.

I love we brought in Jim Nagy as football GM and that will help bridge any gaps there. The AD will have to navigate all the money but having Jim will help mitigate any football issues with transition.

Big no from me. He’s too young and inexperienced imo. Younger folks tend to make rash/quick decisions concerning coaches and its a never ending merry-go-round. Not saying he can’t be good but just needs more time and experience in my opinion. I also kinda hope they go outside the walls to find someone. Zac is legacy and thats not always a good thing in this position.

Hocutt would be a good hire therefore I hope it's not Hocutt.

I hear Steve Patterson is available.

When they hired Joe it was not your typical hire. Then when Joe hired Bob they went outside the legacy and it was done in secrecy. I expect this hire to be a non typical one - likely a private industry person.

Joe said he decided to retire a month ago but it was kept secret. This hire will be done in secret and any/all names will be pure speculation. And it won’t be rushed either.
