Since it’s now officially the offseason now. I thought I would throw this out for discussion.

We have all heard a bunch of rumors etc but this has to be something you personally saw.

1) Football Red Rover (LSU Ole Miss)

In the 80s LSU and Ole Miss actually played the Ole Miss home game in Jackson, Mississippi. It was 83 or 84.
The stadium had really good dueling fan sections as the stadium was actually closer to LSU than Ole Miss.

Everyone brought in their own liquor back then in hip bottles, minis, etc

The LSU student section and Ole Miss students sections were fairly close and throughout the game sent over some token fan to wave a rebel flag etc to frick with the other side. One side went then the other side went, etc

At some point late in the second half I think, LSU sent over this obviously drunk guy I think shirtless with a plastic LSU helmet and LSU flag etc. (May have been more than one) He was at the bottom of the student section and suddenly there was a huge barrage of bottles thrown at the guy, I mean like probably close to a hundred or more. Glass went everywhere but he hung in there as long as he could but eventually was knocked out or something and drug back to his side. He was bleeding and cut up from the glass all over.

I remember thinking “Holy shite this is fricking unreal.” They put him in a helmet because they knew we were going to bottle him.

I don’t remember if we sent someone over after that or not, but it would have definitely been a poor freshman pledge or something.

In the late 70s early 80s if someone didn’t end up in hospital you weren’t trying.

I think Ole Miss won the game but don’t remember

2010 LSU Tennessee football game. It’s not really even close.

In terms of non controversial Kick Six.

1986 UGA at AU. UGA wins and their fans storm the field. AU officials turn on the water cannons and hose them dawgs down.

I dont think I'll ever see that many kicks missed in a game ever again.

I saw people trying to rip bleachers apart when we thought we had lost then give a shoulder shrug when we won and peacefully walk out.

The 2007 A-Day game.

Over 92,000 people on hand for a spring game when Saban first arrived and they still had people trying to get into the stadium when they closed the gates. That was wild.

1989 Iron Bowl …. first time ever on the Plains.

The Auburn SGA would typically distribute 2-3k shakers to fans, usually in the student section. These were the long, wooden-handled shakers made out of paper . The wooden handles were absolutely perfect for mixing bourbon & cokes. The paper would shed into fine particles after repeated, heavy use.

Well for the ‘89 game they distributed 60k plus … they wanted everyone to have one because it was a nationally televised game.

At one point, in the 3rd quarter, Jordan-Hare was rocking …. and I saw the phenomenon now known as “Paper Shaker Haze.” A literal cloud …. waves of paper particles being shed from the 60k plus shakers being violently shaken.

Crazy …

I was at that game and each time I thought “surely he won’t miss this one”. And he did every time.

Wasn’t he an all SEC kicker too? Maybe I’m misremembering that part

LSU vs the Black Bears, early 70's Tiger Stadium. LSU won pretty handily & post game we were walking back to our car. Out of nowhere 5-6 drunk LSU fans were jumped & beating the crap out of a Black Bear fan. BRPD rushed over, pulling the LSU fans off the arse whipped Black Bear fan. Who was handcuffed after struggling to stand up. He was screaming at the cops, why why why???. One big ol' Officer replies : "you are charged with instigating a riot." The LSU crowd standing watching broke out in laughter & cheers.

For me it was probably Cody blocking not 1 but 2 FGs to beat Tennessee en route to Alabama's first national title and undefeated season in 17 years.

Before the 1997 game vs Florida in Tiger Stadium, it was really just the students in the stands because it was well before kickoff. Two Gator fans came by with this GIANT white sheet or paper that had Work Em Silly Gators on it. Well these two decide that it would be a good idea to go down to the bottom section next to the student section and flaunt this gigantic sign in front of a packed student section. One LSU kid runs and snatches the sign then runs up and down the stairs with it while the Gator fans are chasing him. He finally runs into the student section and everyone blocked him from the other 2 guys. Next thing you know that sign is being ripped into a million pieces and thrown up in the air. It looked like wild Tigers destroying their precious sign. The 2 Gator fans go over to the state trooper, the trooper shrugs his shoulders and visibly told them to leave him alone. Student section is yelling Tiger Bait the whole time they were crying about their sign.

LSU goes on to upset #1 Florida in the best LSU game I've ever seen in person.

This is what I'm talking about ...

I never knew the guy did an interview about it.
quote:

“This was back when people didn’t like (former head coach Steve) Spurrier too much, and people hated the Gators,” he says. “That sign was a target for other fans. They didn’t like the Gators, so they’d tried to take it down or throw it away. One year, it got ripped up at LSU — that was our own fault. We went parading it around right over next to the student section before the game started, and it didn’t have a chance. Some guys snatched it and it went up into the student section and before long it was in pieces.

“You really have to watch it.”
