Nil is closest the gap in the sport

Kids that would normally go pro and be minor league staying in school. Lots of seniors and juniors on these teams

Sec teams have more freshmen and sophomores playing

All I got

I kinda think it's a mental thing. I think the SEC really is the best, but the teams kind of know it. The mistake they make is thinking the gap between them and their opponents is bigger than it is. I think that causes them to lose focus some. Meanwhile, the UTSAs and Murray State's and Little Rock's of the world, who are pretty good teams, come in with a mental edge, playing loose and with nothing to lose.

It's baseball. Never judge it til the season is over. If LSU/Arkansas/Tennessee meet Auburn in the CWS Final it will be business as usual. LSU or Arkansas are winning this thing in the end.

Yeah I agree with this. In our case I just think utsa was simply better. Losing our ace pitcher was a hurdle we were never really able to overcome and I'm not convinced we would have beat them twice if we had spencer. I just think UTSA is a better team.
I still think the sec wins it all.

can't speak for other SEC teams, but Auburn appears to have been appropriately rated.

It’s baseball. The best team doesn’t always win.

Hence why the #1 overall seed has only won the title once in 25 years.

A handful of upsets in one particular year doesn’t mean the SEC is overrated.

The SEC has a chance to get 3/8 of the Omaha pool. Could very well be 4/8 if they didn’t have so many teams as national seeds. I wouldn’t really call that overrated

Just the way baseball goes, sometimes.

Lose one of your first two games and it’s hell getting out of the losers bracket, no matter who you are.

If recent history is any indicator, it will be Arkansas or Auburn.

6 of the last 7 national champions were from the SEC. And every time was a different team.

The transfer portal is driving a lot of it, in my opinion. There are so many HS kids who, before the transfer portal, would have gotten P4 scholarships, having to go the JUCO route or to non-P4 schools, because these P4 schools are investing in transfers more than HS recruits. So there's A LOT of talent being "pushed down" to non P4 schools and even the JUCO level that is making those teams more competitive than ever before.

I think the transfer portal is a big part of the answer, and goes hand in hand with the cuts to minor league ball and the draft. There have always been transfers in baseball, but it's even more now than it used to be. Some of it is kids searching for the best NIL deal, but most of it is kids searching for playing time. When there is someone in front of you who is likely to stay around an extra year, it makes it hard to wait it out on the bench. Those kids transfer down to level where they can play immediately. Sometimes they come back, and sometimes, you see them in the post season, which results in a lot more parity.

I would say that this year, there just weren't any teams that stood head and shoulders above the rest, hence why Vandy (a team that lost four SEC series, IIRC) got the number one seed. The number two team, Texas, was overseeded -- they kind of limped to the finish (understandably so) after losing their Friday night starter, but there wasn't anyone coming up from behind to displace them more than buming them down from one to two.

CWS Finals Appearances

Is this easier to get to when they let the whole conference host or in the tournament?

No. Regional and Super Regional hosts lose quite a bit
