Georgia Baseball Interesting

I’ve never seen a Georgia baseball game unless playing LSU. I definitely don’t know much about the program except that they have a good Coach, Wes which was here briefly. Yday I watched them- I’m No analytics guy, baseball savant, or guru lets get that out of the way first.
Georgia leads the country in Home Runs w/ like 120s or so. But what I didn’t realize that their field is 20, to 30-40ft shorter than most college fields. They have hit 100 HRs at home. That’s leave like 15% of those on the road. The analysts for the game said that is exactly how WES recruits.(I know duh) but still I didn’t know. He goes out and finds hulks to hit the long ball and uses that in recruiting that Georgia’s field is small.
Why we hear all the time Georgia is crushing HRs and scoring crooked numbers constantly, ITS all at home.
Just found it interesting that’s all they’re a different team on the road. I know when opponents play there they have the same distance but it’s still a huge advantage to the Bulldogs. Interesting to me and something I didn’t realize about the numbers of their slugging. Does not work as good in Omaha or on the road-,they’re below average out of the VERY Friendly confines of Athens.

It’s a very sound, and good, strategy on Wes’ part.
Win most your games at home. Try as best as you can to win as close to 50% on the road, and you have a record good enough to get you a national seed.
Get the national seed and you’re home until Omaha. For a program like Georgia, getting to Omaha is enough. That’s a very successful, strong season.

Very similar to Auburn.
I’ve never seen a team pepper the area of the park where the LF wall goes from tall and 315 to short and 380 like they do.
Visiting outfielders are lost out there.

Yeah there were three straight fly balls that bear, Dickinson and brown hit in a row near the end last night that would have been way out of Georgias stadium. (And probably ours if the wind wasn’t blowing in last night)

I could be mistaken but I thought I remember their field being big in most parts except either left or right field was really short??Basically not an all around joke like Lindsey Nelson but still advantageous in certain areas

Same thing for Wake in 2023. Some teams numbers get inflated because of their ball parks and then they get to Omaha and you don’t see the same level of production.

This wouldn’t play well in Omaha

It’s pretty much old Yankee stadium: short porch in right, pretty standard depth everywhere else including 400 to dead center.
Give and take of right field is that, yes, lefties can get a short HR but it also limits the number of base hits to that area because the RF plays up so much more. Basically you can only hit a HR, double down the line, or bloop single to right

Depends on the pitching staff we have. Foley kinda demands high strikeout arms because it is easier to hit HRs for both UGA and visiting teams in right, so if you accept a few solo shots here and there but are swing and miss otherwise, that’ll play in Omaha and the offense can figure it out. If/when Wes can actually develop such a staff, I think we can make a run. We’re closer this year than last in that respect.

Hince why all ball parks should have the same measurements.

I get what you're saying but No sir. There's a time and place for cookie cutter parks but NCAA isn't it. Just a few that I love. Pepperdine can't even seat 2k.

And still longer than the high school field Tennessee plays on.

Our stadium isn't that much smaller if at all, the prevailing winds fly directly out. Right is short at 314 because there is a hill there , but left is 350 which I believe is the longest right in the SEC then we are 370 to 400 in the power alley.

That's moronic, almost like NASCAR bad judgment. Let every venue be different because that is the way it has always been with some ballparks being tucked into to right places be it ground effects or urban limitations.
I hate watching boring standardized long fields. UT Austin's set up is awful all the way around.

Totally disagree. Different field dimensions in every single park is one of the quirks that makes baseball great. I get your rationale; I just think it's a cool, unique feature of baseball.

Nobody saying you can't decorate it to whatever, but the measurements should be the same like basketball, football, track, volleyball, etc..

Nobody said you can't decorate it to your likings, but the measurements should be identical just like fb, bb, vb, track, etc..
Or should those be whatever you feel like?
