So Lane Kiffin is the reason the new rule was made? Although he didn’t invent it, shout out to Lane’s run mastering the fake injuries to win games gimmick.

quote:

First, according to the announcement, officials will handle injury timeouts differently moving forward. Now, if a team’s medical personnel have to enter the field of play after the officials have spotted the ball, then that team will be charged a timeout. If the team does not have a timeout, then officials will assess a 5-yard penalty. Previously, there was no consequence. Theoretically, this rule change will reduce late-clock injury timeouts and potential injury-feigning.

During this past season, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer lamented the substitution tactics of two opponents. Both Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and Illinois headman Bret Bielema oversaw what appeared to be strategic injury-feigning. When the Rebels or Illini wanted to slow down the Gamecock offense or disrupt their rhythm, a player would drop to the ground. Play then would have to stop momentarily. Against Ole Miss, one Rebel defensive lineman left the game with an apparent injury at least four times but returned after each instance. After one such example, he celebrated with teammates on the sideline.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was another coach who logged public complaints about Kiffin’s tactics. Both Heupel and Beamer expressed hope that the NCAA rules committee would address the issue in the offseason. Based on the NCAA’s report, the rules committee has answered those hopes.

So if they flop before the ball is spotted then no penalty? If so, Lane will adjust and will have a designated flopper.

My argument has always been that insufficient coaching goes into the fake injury dilemma. Think of it more as an art. And any art needs refining and choreographed. Injuries are part of the game, and making a team pay severely for a real injury late in a game will produce its own complaints. And most certainly here in Idiotville. You might as well set your watch with all the bitchin' this is going to cause.

NCAA to Kiffin: “Check”

Kiffin: *thinks about his next chess move

It was suspicious when 3 games into the season, Kiffin had 28 guys on the injury report, yet they never missed games or playing time.

Kiffin complained about fake injuries his entire first two years in Oxford when everyone did it against us to slow down the offense. NCAA and SEC does nothing.

Kiffing says fine, and abuses the rules to the point where he gets what he wanted in the first place - no more fake injuries.

Kiffin got what he wanted here - he just had to abuse the rules to get there.

And the LSU coach is responsible for the death of a kid. Both of which are wholly irrelevant to this conversation.

Which explains all the fake injuries vs Kentucky. Only an idiot would slow the game down against a physical prodding offense, and you run a HUNH spread. How'd that game work out for the genius anyway?

You don’t understand. He hated the loophole and exploited it enough until it was not kosher.

He won. He’s smart. He fought fire with fire.

Yeah, Kiffen won that one. He absolutely used the rule to force change he wanted. He also used NIL better than most the first couple of seasons with it. He’s a smart dude and will eventually be hired at a program with money and he’ll win big time.

99% of the time they are getting direction from the sideline before going down and it takes some coordination by coaches picking the guy they want to go down and have to sit out the next play. It’s just a lot harder to effectively use fake injuries within the first few seconds of a play ending.

lol he knew the rule would only get made if Ole Miss was abusing fake injuries. We were faking injuries against wake fricking forest for Christ sakes. And there was no rule to stop it so why the frick wouldn’t you do it?

He got what he wanted. We have the fastest offense in college football.
This rule helps his offense more than anything.

Kiffin had the same phobia about kicking short field goals. Which proves once again that losing close ball games is still the best tonic for stupid. Kiffin is a lot of things, but a genius, not so much.

Ole Miss has always been the faking injury big dogs. Whether it was when Freeze was there or since Lane was there they have always done it way more than anybody else
