A-Day Was a disappointment

It was earlier said that it would be on SECESPN+ but it wasn't streamed at all. Then it wasn't even a real scrimmage so the interest was less.
Maybe I'll catch some highlights on YouTube later, but I don't like the changes at all and the lack of streaming is very weak.

If Brother Hugh gets his way, spring games will be a thing of the past anyway.

Did “The Gentry” get 12 catches for 347 yards and 8 TDs?

College football is on a crash course for failure. Especially for the fanbases that care like the B1G and SEC. They want to see players stay and earn fan respect.
The PTB has to put in many regulations to stop the bleeding. Contracts for a start. Transfer limitations might be hard to do because a regular student can up and transfer schools at anytime. But contracts can slow that down. Put a “salary cap” on the programs. There are other options but those would be great starts.
Example on the contract if you sign and are get $1m a year if you leave you have to pay the school back $800k of that $1m.

You want to watch some 7on7 that doesn’t mean anything? Just do something more meaningful with your life for 30 minutes

Yeah, they aren't long for this new world of college football.

It’s a trend across the board. Not on Hugh.

They can't. The NCAA punted on paying players for so long that the court system nuked the student athlete myth. Congress could pass something to provide an anti-trust exemption but cmon.
Every single thing you listed would get struck down by the court system as infringing on an athletes ability to be paid what they are worth, which has led to what we have now.

Maybe college football should offer a preseason exhibition game only 2 quarters with other teams. Work out the wrinkles.

It was pretty much known it wasn’t going to be all that awesome.

Very, very few of these kids are "worth" anything more than a scholarship. What the market will bear is a different story, but that's because power broker boosters are willing to pay (too much) to make their school better than others, for the purpose of boosting their own egos. Now, maybe it's (almost) always been that way; difference is we're just doing it out in the open in front of God and everybody and with more $$$.
Still, I question the wisdom of making 18 to 22 year old children multi-millionaires because they can run faster, hit harder, or throw/catch a ball better than their peers.
As to individual players' value, are you watching/have you been Jackson Arnold, Jarquez Hunter, Cam Newton, Tank Bigsby, etc., OR, have you been watching Auburn football?
All of this said, if you want to win, you need the best players, and they are going to cost money in this brave new world. Maybe they cost money in the old world too, but the price has gone way up.

Does anyone know if they are still charging since there is no actual playing?
Never mind...answered in another thread.

Is it just sort of a local crowd?
Do people tailgate for A-Day?

For a one hour practice, I doubted many people would drive in

I don't disagree and to top it off some states have been trying to allow tax exemptions on those earnings too

As if running, hitting, throwing/catching should qualify you for even more earnings than regular people.
Either congress steps in and levels the playing field or the top 40 (or even less) teams get together and leave the NCAA behind to "solve" these issues.

Is it to hide players before spring portal?
Posted on 4/13/25 at 12:30 am to AUstar
Yes. It’s to hide players. But I could see 5-6 of ours still hitting the portal. It’s crazy this is 3 years in a row that we will have around 40 new players on the team. I’m not sure who is left from the Harsin era now. Maybe a few OL

Saw the crowd size. Embarrassing.

True, it should not have surprised anyone. But then, when has A-Day ever been that awesome?
If they leave it up to the coaches, Spring practice may turn into run-throughs with little contact and a lot of film work and Fall practice will start a couple of weeks earlier. Maybe have a picture/fan day of some sort in the spring.
