A lot don't understand the psyche of Texans and the strong desire to return to the state. He also has kids in Texas.

And if there's one school out there with a bigger re-build than Texas A&M, it's Ole Miss, who loses almost their entire team this year.

At least we have two good forwards available for next year, though Payne entered the portal and is waiting.

I hate poaching from other SEC schools.

I know, I know, UF did the same with Mullen. I didn't like it though, even though I was glad to have him.

This would be pretty hilarious if true.

It'll be a shame to watch A&M ruin another great coach but he will be handsomely rewarded for it.

maybe, but you get a pass if it's a coach wanting to return to his home state and family. at least in our state, that counts for a LOT.

Texans think of themselves as a breed apart; we have a saying "it's a whole nother country". Not saying he's coming to A&M, but am saying I could understand wanting to come back to the state, all other things being equal. And I think the OM job and A&M are pretty much equals.

Aggies going with the family man schtick again? It worked on a complete unknown like Earley but I’m not buying it for Beard.

This has nothing to do with it. He would do it to spite Texas for firing him and A&M has a lot of money, those are the reasons.

A&M is too poor for an established P5 coach. Look at who A&M has hired since firing Jimbo. Elko and the baseball coach weren't exactly big name, expensive, flashy hires.

They're broke and the Aggie Code prevents them from robbing a children's hospital.

Going to be some mid-major guy like UC Irvine's head coach.

I think he'd rather hold out for something else.

Y'all got Billy Gillispie the job at Kentucky and he was over his skiis promptly got fired and now coaches at powerhouse Tarleton State.

As far as football goes.. y'all are the official graveyard

Fisher - unemployed
Sumlin - flamed out at AZ coached the Gamblers then got another DUI as a Maryland assistant
Sherman - went on to coach Nauset Regional HS and the Montreal Alouettes now retired
Franchione - 5 years of sub .500 football at Texas State now retired
Slocum - retired

You have to go all the way back to Jackie Sherrill to find the most recent coach who left A&M's football team to have any modicum of success elsewhere and even he wound up posting a .500 record in 13 seasons at Mississippi State. He did get them to the SEC CG in 1998 tho which is of course better than A&M has done in their 13 seasons in the SEC

This is so true. I've moved away a few times in my life and always end up coming back. Never really understood why. I've lived in some beautiful parts of this country. Smoky Mountains in east Tenn, South Carolina coast...but I always come back.
Beard is a fantastic hire if it happens. If your AD gives him what he needs he WILL be successful there.
