Chips are down: Do you have "supper" or "dinner"?

Breakfast, lunch, supper.

Supper.

Dinner is eaten on Sunday after church.

So you call "lunch", "dinner"?

that is what my grandparents called it - they had their "big meal of the day" at dinner (aka lunch) and had their lighter meal at supper

My mom called it supper when I was growing up… she still calls it that from time to time.

But for the most part, my family switched to calling it dinner sometime in the mid 1990s

The South is not what it was nowadays and this is a perfect example.

The Coast Guard uses the terms "morning meal," "noon meal," and "evening meal" to prevent confusion since units typically have members from various parts of the country. Midnight meals for underway cutters are called "midrats," for midnight rations. I always thought the terminology fairly humorous...

Supper for normal days. Dinner for the fancy plates and fancy fixings.
