What happened to Tennessee.

Nothing..... Michigan awakened a sleeping giant. Osu wasn't playing the kind of ball (really all season long) that they were made for. The loss to Michigan was strictly a matter of Ryan day's ego in being tougher than UM and playing to the only strength Michigan had, it's DL, which is 1 or 2 best in CFB. OVER, and over, and over again they ran stright into the line, when they have a trio of WR's that literally cannot be covered (ala Justin Jefferson and J'Marr Chase). Jeremiah Smith, as a true freshmen is otherworldy and the other 2 are fantastic. Nothing TN. could have done would have worked. If I was OSU's's coach I would at least target Smith 10-12 X, not 4-5 like the Michigan game.... TN., especially defensively, is a rock solid team. This is JMO but I try to be a logical and as much as I can, unbiased. I watch a lot of FB, and not just SEC or LSU.

They are who we thought they are. Only Vol fans had deluded themselves into thinking they were any good

Grossly underachieving alabama made Tennessee think they were good.
Look at Tennessee's schedule...they played UGA and Bama and were 1-1.
They did NOT play Texas, A&M, Carolina, OMiss, or even LSU.

And they didn't play Missouri...
Tennessee should have played Indiana for the play-in.

This should be your question.

I think Ohio state will shite the bed next round after that stellar offensive performance. They looked almost as good as 2019 LSU.

Yep, they’re clearly a mid tier SEC team
Texas
Georgia
Bama
gap
LSU
Ole Miss
Florida
Oklahoma
gap
They’re in the Carolina, A&M, Misery tier

Forget Tenners schedule....they are very good defensively and were absolutely shredded. Where was all the talk about how bad OSU's OL was...... They totally throttled Tenners DL.

Vols went 3-1 against teams you listed as a tier of 2 above us.

Oklahoma had a down year, Florida is implementing a true freshman, Bama is your Super Bowl
It’s almost been 20 years since Tenner has even played in the SEC CG

Which tells you why us Vol fans understand Tim Banjs is vastly overrated as DC. Chip Kelly clowned him.

The simple truth is OSU had far more talent than us, home field and a pissed off team. They have the most talented roster nationally and decided to play like it. Our DL was our best hope and they decided to stay in Knoxville but even if they hadn't the best we do is keep the game closer.
We had a roster that was still below the 50 percent mark on the blue chip ratio while theirs is north of 80 percent. We were never going to win it all but we got a raw deal in round 1. I hope the seeding gets fixed next year but we're going to have start stacking top 5 classes instead of top 15 classes if we ever want to get past the 5 to 10 mark in how good we can be.

Sometimes non championship teams have uncharacteristically bad games. Nobody questioned Tennessee’s place in The playoff until after the blowout. You could argue Tennessee, ole miss, and bama being fairly even, but Tennessee beat more of the teams they were supposed to. Unlike bama and ole miss.

Nobody who watched them play this year thought they were particularly good.
A pretty weak schedule produced a good final record.
Their best win (Alabama) they played like absolute garbage the first half but Bama couldn't make them pay for it. Neither team looked good that day.

An Auburn poster posted our SOS a few threads ago. This is a myth. That said, we were always 1 dimensional on offense.

Our defense probably won us 1 or 2 games more than our offensive performance deserved.

Hypel ready to bounce to another team IMO.

Heupel reminds me, football-wise, of Mark Richt. Former QB, good offensive mind and good coordinator, not a great head coach and motivator. This is not a slam against them, just facts. I've seen many, many coordinators that just couldn't make a successful transition to HC. Heupel often gets out coached, overall, like Richt did. The difference is Richt almost always scored lots of points, but his D's often gave up even more.
