Which is better, having a bye or having an easy opponent before a big game?

Sometimes a bye can throw your timing off and take away your momentum.

Case in point, Ole Miss looked off when they played Florida after a bye this season. I think it matters who you play prior to a big game just as much as getting a bye.

Going forward this coming season Florida has a bye before the Texas game, but Texas does not. This would seem to favor Florida, but let's look at the weeks leading up to the game and see if it is a big advantage.

Florida:
Sept. 13: at LSU
Sept. 20: at Miami
Sept. 27: Idle
Oct. 4: vs. Texas

Texas:
Sept. 13: vs. UTEP
Sept. 20: Idle
Sept. 27: vs. Sam Houston
Oct. 4: at Florida

Florida has two tough road games and a bye.
Texas has an easy home game, a bye, and another easy home game.

So while UF has a bye before the game and Texas does not, I think Texas will probably be fresh and ready to play on Oct 4th, and I don't think Florida has an advantage here.

Easy opponent. Some coaches actually suck arse prepping the team during a bye week

If you’ve been banged up, a bye. If your team is hot, I’d rather play the easy opponent

Their schedule is easier with no Michigan. A&M at home, only tough game is UGA on the road

Every coach out there will take the bye. What does that tell you?

An easy opponent with one exception.

If that easy opponent runs the triple option, it's worse than having a bye. It will often hurt when you play a team running a "regular" offense.

Playing Arkansas right after the bye week was a nightmare. It was supposed to be one of the easiest game on the schedule.

We start the season at Ohio state, not exactly an easy road game

Didn’t see that, thought I saw UTEP.

bigD, what are your thoughts on Napier? I really thought he did an outstanding job this year. The team could have completely thrown in the towel, but they kept fighting and y'all looked very respectable this year, as the season progressed. It's obvious that the players respect him and are willing to play hard for him.

I'm ready for your baseball threads

So, you're coming off an 8 month bye?

Florida won't be a day at the park either.

Yeah you can't schedule a tougher non-conf game, imo.

Florida was also a much, much different team in November than they were in September. I thought they were one of the 15 best teams in the country at the end of the season.

He overachieved and surprised me that he could keep the team together and turn the season around. He also sucks as a gameday coach and is going to get fired if he doesn't get a good OC and turn the offense loose.

There are always nuances. Thanks for the info.
