Yeah, yeah Bama lost to OU yadda yadda yadda

SMU in: all the matters is your W-L record if you’re in a P4 conference. The SEC will not be moving to a 9 game conference slate and you can guarantee big OOC matchups will start disappearing for more Mercer type games.

Bama in: completely kills conference championship games, especially for ACC and B12. Teams would possibly opt out of them if possible.

Ratings wise, the first option is suicide for ESPN but probably the “right” thing to do, and the way I expect it to go.

They put themselves in a heck of a mess with some laughable weekly rankings leading up to yesterday.

Saban is gone, no one gives a frick about watching Alabama anymore. In a 12 team playoff leaving out an average 9-3 team with no cache is far from ratings suicide. It's time you accept your new reality.

I think Peter Burns put it best. Bama gets left out and that snake Sankey will make sure there is hell to pay

Take your blinders off. Alabama at Notre Dame in the first round would be national championship type ratings.

They royally fricked up by not taking the NCAABB stance that SOS is the first and most important line item in evaluating teams.

I don't agree. From an ACC standpoint, they had one guaranteed team in before the game and they now have one guaranteed team in after the game.

Not really... Bama has lost a lot of appeal.

At the expense of billions lost on TV contracts for the conference championship games - which would then be extremely irrelevant. $ says protect the value of conference championship games for ESPN, ABC, etc.. v letting Bama in.

Is there another team with 0 wins vs ranked teams in the playoffs?

Bama had a top 4 rating game 7 times this season.

People tune in to watch Bama even if it’s just because they hope they’ll lose.

Removing conference championships isn’t costing conferences billions.

This situation actually reminds me of mid major basketball. Team A is clearly the best team in the conference, trips up in the idiotic conference tournament format and the conference is represented by a worse team in the tournament.

Conferences have determined the extra money is worth their teams getting a bad deal.

Having a 16 team playoff with NO BYES solves this problem. The "committee" shite the bed again. Then the pretenders get weeded out in the first round.

It's really the worst case scenario for the committee.

But, it's their own fault for being so wishy washy about criteria when the whole road map of pitfalls was already laid out by the history of changes the NCAA basketball selection committee has made regarding SOS and Quality Wins.

Just leaving a team that's as divisive as Alabama out of it, what's the logical, repeatable criteria for ranking SMU over South Carolina?

Indiana. Penn St has a win over #21 Illinois and Notre Dame has one win over # 24 Army. These are the schools Alabama, Ole Miss, and SCAR should get in over.

ASU and Boise State at least have more top 25 wins than all 3 of those teams.

Yes, there's been barely a mention of Alabama on this board in the last 48 hours...
