Does the winner of LSU/Texas A&M make it into the top 5?

Most of the unbeatens don't have any great wins (PSU, Miami). The Tigers' and Aggies' lone loss were at the very beginning of the season, and most of the one-loss teams don't have better wins than the the winner of this game, especially LSU (who will have wins over A&M and Ole Miss).

They should.
Winner of this game is in the drivers seat.

LSU probably would. TAMU wouldn't jump from #14 to #5 though. If A&M wins, they'll jump to 8 or 9.

LSU might depending on what happens to the 8 above then.
A&M would settle in around #8 or 9 with a win. No way they jump 9 spots.

what will suck for the playoffs is that the top three teams in the ACC don't even play in the regular season, if they get two it's gonna be a joke

A&M has a ND problem. Until they lose, it’s gonna be hard to pass them. Maybe that changes with a big victory over LSU.

ND was a top 10 team when we played them, and they’ve remained a top 10 team all season. And Texas A&M was tied with 2 minutes left. This past week’s rankings were a bit of a head-scratcher, but nothing we can do about it except keep winning. Whining about it is weak.
Whether or not you agree with Notre Dame’s ranking, these are the parameters by which things are measured, and the polls think they’re one of the best teams in the nation,
I think A&M‘s primary problem with the pollsters is years of unfulfilled expectations. And that’s on Mike Elko and his team to change. They’re off to a good start.

Depends on what happens to the teams above them.

Did you lose a bet?

agreed on all that.. LSU will be a good test either way.

LSU yes, A&M probably no for this week but it would strengthen their case a lot for later in the season.

CFP Rankings Come out on November 5th. The AP may have the winner ranked 8-9 but in the committees eyes they'd be ranked 3rd. Who knows?

One thing for sure is that the loser will not have any margin for error afterwards. It is very likely that their early season out of conference loss costs either LSU or TAM a spot in the playoffs, and possibly both of them.

Lots of teams end up ahead of the team to which they lost - even with an equal number of losses. Or are you saying specifically because it is Notre Dame and they are the darlings of every voter - be it AP or CFP committee?

they both have one loss early in the year..
so their resume is kinda the same.. and I think people are more likely to rank ND higher because of the H2H.
most computer polls have ND higher too.. It’s just gonna be hard for A&M to pass ND unless they lose.. because A&M lost to them
See Alabama last year with the Texas loss.
Texas would have the same problem passing Georgia at this point…
But Georgia did pass Alabama earlier in the year when they lost to Vandy. So it’s possible.
High profile teams have more eyeballs looking at the details.. compared to a team like Indiana or Missouri..

Not without a top five team losing.
Right now we have
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. PSU
4. OSU
5. Texas
6. Miami
7. Tennessee
LSU would maybe be in discussion for #6 but Miami is somehow still undefeated
A&M is fighting their preseason ranking but probably jumps into the top ten if they beat LSU. They have to pass Clemson, Iowa State, BYU, Indiana, and Notre Dame.

I guess we’re excluding what happened in week 2….

Not for me to say. I don’t have a vote.
