Was our 2020 team really the best in school history?

Yes, they went 13-0 on an all-sec schedule, first to ever do so (well the last two wins were non-sec but quality opponents nonetheless)
Mac Jones was great, probably the best version of any QB in school history was 2020 MJ. Waddle, Smith and Harris made the offense almost unstoppable.
But how about the rest of the team? The defense was not even close to the best Saban had at Bama. We’ve had some extremely well-rounded teams.
I suppose 2020 Bama would be the best for any hypothetical match because they would either outscore or blow out the opponent.

Oddly enough, we're currently averaging about the same amount of yards per play on offense as the 2020 team.

Good but not the best

The offense was so much better than any other offense we've had. 2018 was very good, but it was exposed against Clemson as not being able to counter.
The 2020 defense was decent, if not good. Certainly a top 25 defense. They were 13th in scoring defense, 32nd in yards per game, 20th in yards per play, They were 1st in fewest plays given up of 10+ yards and 20+ yards, 2nd in forced fumbles, 7th in sacks, 10th in TFLs, 17th in INTs.
The defense had Pat Surtain, Will Anderson, Christian Barmore, Christian Harris, Jordan Battle, and Brian Branch - all NFL starters right now.

If 2016 had held on against clemson would that have gone down as the best ever? I know the defense was one of the best

I don't have stats to compare but if not for Johnny freaking Football I've felt like that 2012 team was possibly the best overall team I've seen.

No, that was the year of Jalen Hurts running out of bounds every play that he didn’t have a run lane or wide open receiver. It worked the first half of the season, but decent defenses stopped it. The defense kept Bama alive that year, but Hurts’ lack of ability to keep drives alive cost them against Clemson. Defense got worn down, but it was still a pick play at the end.

I think the 2015 was the best team by the end of the year. Arguably the best dline in CFB history, Coker had turned the corner, Ridley was a beast, and Henry was unstoppable.
2017 was most talented Bama team, simply a ridiculous number of future NFL starters on that team. It's the most talented team in CFB history actually. But Jalen Hurts held back that offense tremendously. He wasn't there yet.
2020 was was great offensively, but without Dickerson I think the 2015 team gets to Mac. I also think 2015 runs all over that defense.
My personal order:
2015
2017
2016
2019(if healthy, LB core especially)
2020
2018
2012
2011
2009
2022
2008

The 2017 defense was probably the best but unfortunately it was paired with one of the shittiest offenses of the Saban era. Had Tua started that year, it likely would have been viewed as the best team of the Saban era.

I think it's viewed as the best in school history because we had only one close call that year and it was UF, even though the game never seriously felt like UF was going to take it.
Even 2019 LSU, whom retards here proclaim is "the best ever" struggled with Texas, Auburn and a one legged Tua that had a sluggish start (which essentially gave the game away) due to missing a month of practice. I'd argue 2021 and 2022 UGA would annihilate 2019 LSU.

2020 Bama is definitely the best offense in college football history. The only teams that might could make an argument to be better overall are 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami.

2019 LSU was a one dimensional offense. Now, that dimension is probably the greatest passing offense in history, but they weren't a great running team and their defense scared no one.

You clearly have not watched Auburn this year.

It’s 2011 or 2020 IMO.
That 2020 offense was a machine. Mac was almost automatic on 3rd down. Its a shame he doesn’t get the respect he deserves, truly one of the best seasons a College QB has ever had.
If 2016 had finished the deal and had a better QB they would be far and away #1 tho

2019 was going to be Saban's doomsday machine. They were stacked across the board. That damn injury ruined everything

You have to be basing this on what people did in the NFL or something, which is just a totally different game. The 2019 team was a bottom four Saban team even before the Tua injury. The defense sucked.

Not one of. A solid argument could be made that it was the best, period. Certainly blew past Joe Burrow's 2019 season. If not for Waddle's injury giving Smith more touches, I think Jones would have won the Heisman by a huge margin. I personally think he should have anyway.

Can you not read? I didn't even bring up Tua. The caveat to the side that said "if healthy" and specifically mentioned the LB corp. It was devastated in the pre-season.
