Kirk Herbstreit calls suspect injuries 'unethical as hell' in Tennessee football-Oklahoma

I agree 100% with Herbstreit's comments.

quote:

Kirk Herbstreit is suspicious of injuries that slow down an up-tempo offense.

Herbstreit labeled such injuries "unethical as hell" and "pathetic" during Tennessee football against Oklahoma while on the call for ABC.

“This is college football," Herbstreit said. "They look over after a big play. He looks over and just goes down. It’s not necessarily against the rules but it is unethical as hell. You see it all over against these tempo offense where guys go down with these quote-unquote injuries.”

Oklahoma defensive lineman Da'Jon Terry went down grabbing at his lower leg following a 38-yard pass from Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava to Bru McCoy, which set up Tennessee at the Oklahoma 10-yard line. Herbstreit called for a replay from the pylon cam and pointed out that Terry looked to the Sooners sideline before going down to the field and causing a delay in Tennessee's offensive tempo.

“It’s pathetic," Herbstreit said.

It’s an issue, but all teams do it. Nothing they can do since officials don’t want to guess whether a player is faking or not.

And where has this outrage been the last 15-20 years when the uptempo thing came into vogue?

Pretty sure Kirk should not be talking about ethics after he and Saban conspired against FSU. #WeRemember

If a player is hurt enough that the game has to stop then that player should be sitting out longer than a single play.

This is an easy fix - just discourage fake injuries by making players stay on the sidelines for the rest of the series or quarter.

Ole miss had a player that pretended to have a torn acl like 8 times in 1 game. He would get his team a timeout and come play the next snap after he was carried off on a gurney. We do it to. Not near as bad as ole miss but all the same. It's just dirty football. It reminds me of that player that fake fair caught the ball against arkansas. How proud of yourself can you really be.

Wow.

You're the second person that seems to be obsessed with post counts.

Might seem high due to numerous posts in last nights game thread. Some of us have a real football team.

Yep! Make it where a minimum of 10 minutes off the clock before a player can return.

I wish more coaches would be called out on this in the post-game pressers.

That would just encourage players who are actually hurt to stay on the field. Maybe out for the rest of the drive is a better compromise.
