The decision to replace Hank. Would you have done it?

I figured we would let him ride out the entire game. Thorne change at half reeked of desperation. It's just baffling we do not have a serviceable QB

In this situation, yes. I’d let him know that this was more to help him and his psyche after 3 ints than it is that he can’t get it done.

Then, I’d let him compete for QB1 next week.

I would not have done it but I think it was the right call in the end

Hank made mistakes but the team didnt help him. Which he needed

Hank is not a p5 qb right now. Starting him probably cost us the game.

I was torn the whole time. We have seen him in the bowl game, a few mop up duties, and last week against a terrible team. He was still unknown and doesn't have the big arm/physical talents that make you look at those performances and say "Yeah, he is pur guy". But, Thorne was a fully known product and came off his worst game of his career.

In the end, I probably would have made the move, just to maybe give the offense a spark, but I would have had an even shorter leash than he did today. That first pick he threw was almost as bad as it gets. I say "almost as bad" because he had another that was somehow even worse.

I'm not sure why this staff doesn't realize they're gonna have to lean on the run game at this point. We have two backs (Alston can sit forever as far as I'm concerned with the fumbles) that can get the job done. Mix in the QB run with Thorne, start practicing the screen game, get Simmons some work on jet sweeps/reverses, and throw off play action. That is just about the only way to field any offense this season. At least it looks that way. Because outside of a single big pass play down the sideline to KLS, nothing in the pass game works for this team, for whatever reason. So frick it, RUN THE BAWL.

Why are our qbs having so much trouble reading the defense? Payton a 5th year senior really has no excuse. Do they even watch film or practice? What the hell does kent Austin do with them? I know other players aren't doing great either but both of these guys have been under freeze and Austin for 2 seasons now and there's no improvement.

fricking Auburn man. Like I said in the game thread: It's frustrating as all hell watching teams roll out competent (not even good, just regular) offenses every year while Auburn seems to forget how to do anything in the passing game every fricking year. I mean, we had a guy start out here, be pretty average, and then end up a Heisman finalist after he left. And for those who want to say he's the outlier, our current HC took one of AU's transfers and got him drafted. Yet, when that coach comes here, QB has been the main glaring issue.

Mind boggling.

What was confusing was the play calling was more suited for Hank after they brought in PT. The deep shots downfield are his wheelhouse, not PT.

I always say offensive minded people come to auburn and forget how to offense. It's truly puzzling. Like you said we get less talented schools/coaches that come into auburn and look like they are prepared and well coached. They even run somewhat of a competent offense. Meanwhile our players look like they came off of an all night bender and just met their coach last week

I disagree with it. Taking out a player for playing badly and replacing him with a player that was benched for playing badly makes absolutely no sense. Hank had 1 bad half. Thorne has had 1+ bad season. I just can't see any benefit to the switch. There was absolutely no chance Thorne was going to win that game.

We have no identity on offense. That’s the problem. It’s just grab a play and run it.

Until we decide we are gonna run the ball 60ish percent of the time we are gonna struggle.

Run the ball, stop the run. It’s been the recipe for winning for 100 plus years

This X 100. There is zero reason in a game like today that we should have 35 pass attempts to 26 rush attempts. Zero.
