Do you think lsu fans are still hurt over losing to ND twice in the 90’s. Or did they only become fans during Saban years?

It's made up for the fact that the AP awarded us their national championship for the 1978 college football season.

By the way, the game was played in Birmingham - not Tuscaloosa. If you're going to flame, at least know what the hell you're talking about.

1979 Sugar Bowl, the very few times that the number 1 team played the number 2 team for the National Title. Penn State was #1 and we stuffed them 4 times on the goal line to win it all. ROLL TIDE!!!

If Alabama does not beat Penn State, Penn State wins it in both polls.

That season was one of the better examples of the old "head to head" vs. "who lost last" dilemma that dogged CFB for so long.

USC beat Bama and then later lost to ASU. That year the polls split on which was more important.

Hopefully those days are over now.

1973 might have been even worse.

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

Gots 18? No, and neither does Bammer.

No program is going to decide to not claim a poll title that was awarded to them.

Three national tiles in the 1970's: 1973, 1978, and 1979. It was a glorious decade running the wishbone under Coach Bryant. Nothing but great memories that will last forever. Thanks for reminding me of how wonderful it was!
