By winning for now: make the playoffs

How soon does this need to happen so that Kelly can keep his job?

If they don’t make the playoffs the next two seasons, the seat starts getting hot.

I’m a BK supporter but that incompetent trash defense run by a clown DC last year is not acceptable and you have to put some blame on him.

BK said year 3 is when it's time to take stock and that's what I intend to do.

This place is already feeling the expectations. Lose to USC and Kelly will have lost to a middle B1G team with terrible defensive personnel. Kelly better not lose to USC.

next season if not this

he’s already doing much better through 2 years than he did at Notre Dame and has a better record through 27 games at LSU than Saban did.

It was honestly shocking to see an LSU defense that bad last year. That's just totally unacceptable.

Let’s get out in front of this. How would you describe Wisconsin?

Sure are a lot of bama fans that are worried about about LSU, instead of their own first year HC.

I think Kelly would have won an NC had he followed Saban like Miles did. There’s a certain amount of positive inertia created by Saban’s organization. DeBoer will also benefit from inheriting from Saban. It’s whether he can sustain it.

While I agree with the statement and it is 100% fact, I feel that is apples and oranges.

While Ed O mailed it in his last season and rested on his laurels, I think what Saban inherited from Dinardo was worse than what BK inherited. Granted I'm looking at this hundreds of miles away and not through the lens of someone as close to the program as an instate fan.

Who says he won't? Miles won the NC in his third year. This is Kelly's third year at LSU. It took Kirby six years at UGA.

I never thought we’d see an LSU defense as bad as Pelini’s defense when he came back to LSU… Then last year happened.

while it sort of is, it’s also not an unfair barometer either. This is LSU’s first full rebuild since Saban and both Dinardo and O left talented players on a 2 year lull who were undisciplined and not pulling in the same direction.

comparing BK’s history at previous stops is also not unfair. the portal/nil didn’t exist in either situation but that has cut both ways.

another 9-3 type season this year could be argued as akin to Saban’s 2002 and still “on schedule”.

If we’re still not seriously in the mix through year 4, many questions will be asked.

In fairness (And this is not meant as a swipe at LSU or a troll)

1. Kirby was a first time coach
2. Are you saying in order to be compared to Miles, Kelly should win a title this year?

I think it doubtful Kelly wins a title this year, but he seems to me to be a bit more of a methodical coach, meaning he puts his team together slowly, but methodically until he get all the pieces he wants in place.

Matt House was fricking terrible. Omar Speights was terrible at LB. He just made the Rams 53 man roster and was rreslly good in pre season. I think Baker rights the ship this year. I’m not saying we are going to be a top 10 D but top 40 wouldn’t surprise me.

If we lose to USC I’m officially off the train. I think that will prove beyond doubt the criticism that Kelly “dosent have his team ready for big games”

In terms of facilities and support I agree. In terms of talent it's not even close. We had 38 scholarship players when Kelly took over.

Also need to keep in mind that both the expectations and the overall level of play in the SEC are night and day from what it was. The SEC was basically just Florida and Tennessee.
