Alabama players who transferred to FSU

The quintet has brought an infusion of talent from Tuscaloosa to Tallahassee. All were blue-chip transfers in a portal class ranked fourth by 247Sports. Three were top-100 national recruits in high school: running back Roydell Williams, linebacker Shawn Murphy and Ferguson, an offensive lineman. A fourth (defensive back Earl Little Jr.) was 106th, and the fifth (receiver Malik Benson) was the nation’s top junior college prospect.
Hope they had a nice trip to Ireland.
I hope Caleb Downs has all his dreams come true.
Roll Tide.

This thread needs to be about the portal players who left Alabama. I’m always a bit interested in seeing how they do
elsewhere.
elsewhere.

I don't have an issue with the guys like Roydell who weren't going to be starters. But Downs can get fricked.

To my understanding there needs to be an individual thread for each of them and potentially a new thread each time they scratch their arse.

Nah, I'll wish him well as an individual (not sure what 19 year old college player could turn down $3 million dollars), but I would love to see OSU crash and burn with the far and away most expensive roster in CFB.

quote:this is my current take. It's shitty. But he came to play for the goat, and $3 million is a fricking shitload of money. Though I'm curious what we offered for him to stay.

Fans expect all this loyalty from players they only love if they're wearing the right jersey and they're successful. No one loves Caleb Downs because he's Caleb Downs except his family and friends.
I don't blame these guys for chasing money and opportunity. Twenty years from now if Downs is living in the projects, no one from Bama or OSU is going to give a shite.
Worry about yourselves, guys. Do what's best for you.

I just know it damn sure wasn't $3 million.

I wished Saban has picked Ga Tech. That would have been sweet.

I doubt anyone picked GT yesterday. It was an incredibly long shot that they won, although I'm glad they did win. With all the whining FSU and their fans did last year, I hope they lose every game.

I mean he said he thought GT would be able to run the ball well and it would come down to if they could play better defense (than last few years).
He thought FSU’s side and speed would ultimately decide the game. I think he wanted to pick GT tbh

Watching Texas A&M do just that was pretty funny.

Before you try to gaslight others from your sanctimonious high horse, I just have to ask, did you trash Fran for leaving us? If Deboer bolts for the NFL next year (say before the bowl games), would you feel any animosity toward him? Better yet, if he ditches us for Auburn or Tennessee, how would you feel? If he wins a total of 8 games the next three seasons, will you call for his head? How do you feel about the Yankees buying up all the talent in baseball?
How about instead of worrying about what others think about millionaire athletes (who are getting a free ride at that) on the internet, worry about yourself.

I have never trashed anyone for doing what’s best for themselves when it comes to money and opportunity, and I understand this a hell of a lot better than most.
My father was a high school football coach, and I was one too for 20 years. Coaches move all the time for money and opportunity. I coached against my alma mater and every other school I coached at one time or another. I coached against my dad twice. I coached against players I used to coach. I coached against former teammates. I coached against former staff members.
And this is in situations where we don’t all get golden parachutes like major college coaches if we get fired. We have to figure out how to pay the mortgage and power biill and where our next job is going to be. And with coaching being a zero sum game (meaning a colleague has to fail for me to be successful), that’s tough in a lot of ways.
So I understand full well the importance coaches and players looking out for themselves - at every level. The fans who cheer you today aren’t going to give a flying frick about your financial situation in ten years. So you better do what’s best for yourself if your future is at stake.
I also don’t really care who stays or goes. It’s purely entertainment to me, like watching a movie. And I’m a second generation UA alumnus who was born in Tuscaloosa and was a walk-on four years. And I still don’t really care. None of the winning happens because of anything I do, and I don’t even know any of the players, so why should I care? Every game I coached on Friday night was more important to me than anything Alabama will ever do outside the time I was actually there - because Friday night was my livelihood and I actually had a hand in what was going on.
So I get it. Totally. If I were Caleb Downs and I were offered $3,000,000 to go play for OSU, I would have been a gone arse too. And I don’t know what Fran was offered, but he obviously thought it was a better situation for himself, and I don’t begrudge him for that either.
Most fans don’t understand this, but I’m telling you: once your livelihood and your opportunities in life have been affected by sports, you see things differently.
If you expect guys with millions of dollars on the line an/or a better opportunity to showcase their talent to pass it up in order to charge down the guns for Alabama, you’re going to get your feelings hurt a lot.
