yikes and they were only two years away from finally getting over .500 all-time wins. So close yet so far away.

SEC and B10 will pare schools. MSU is a candidate.

You're coming off one of your best seasons ever and now looking to make the CFP this year, and State is still on your mind when you wake up each day

Schools like Miss State & Arkansas (and maybe A&M) that have proven they can't win SEC titles in football should be very worried.

Remember when Southern Miss was competitive too? The Favre days were awesome.

Programs such as Indiana, Northwestern, and Purdue in the Big Ten, and Mississippi State and Vanderbilt in the SEC, getting the same cut of the TV pie as Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida, and Georgia is absurd and unrealistic. It's not sustainable.

Ah yes. Nebraska deserves more money for….not making a bowl game since 2016?

Here's the entire article in a nutshell.
quote:

Last May, Iowa State athletic Jamie Pollard warned of the future cannibalization of smaller college football programs and that [...] the SEC could soon discard the bottom programs.

For Mississippi State's relatively smaller fan base, these are tumultuous and worrisome times. Hail State is in a battle for its very survival.

Mississippi State simply can’t compete on an NIL level with almost all SEC schools.

Athletic Director Zac Selmon and his football program need a miracle.

Per the author's dissertation here now in August, which is based on a Big 12 AD's personal hypothesis to the media back in May, wherein he states that the Big Ten and SEC will eventually “eat their own...”

...the Bulldogs face the abyss.

Don't conflate W/L's with team conference value. This is about TV ratings driving contract $$$ and the simplest surrogate for predicting ratings is home attendance.

Wow, where has that guy been? I said this as soon as I heard we were adding OU & UT and doing away with divisions. We may never in my lifetime make the playoffs but I will still support them. The success of my favorite team doesn’t impact who I am as a person. Wonder when Rock Westfall will be relevant?

As much as I hate to give any actual consideration to what comes across as shameless clickbait, I would have to assume that any attempts to jettison a program in good standing would precipitate a shitstorm of litigation.

Or, is there some mechanism in the contracts that allows for this?

You could always do it the hard way...

- vote to disband conf
- start a new one
- don't invite the jettisoned teams

You may be right but the success of MSU in baseball, A&M in various sports and Arkansas baseball (won the SEC West again this year), basketball (several elite eights before last season but now with coach Cal and a cast of 5 stars) and pure dominance of track and field should keep us in.

When was the last time Texas won the NCAA basketball tournament?

Hint: Never

When was the last time Texas won the NCAA baseball tournament?

Hint: 2005

Out of the last seven football games against Arkansas, how many has Texas won?

Hint: Two

I stand by MSU's right to stay in the SEC.

Now Hail State is a horse cavalry going up against nuclear superpowers. Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and now Missouri all come loaded with the cash to be top players in the SEC. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is led by the “Portal King” Lane Kiffin.

The best Mississippi State can hope for is to compete with Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and perhaps Kentucky.
