An odd statement. But maybe partially true for other reasons. The sport is bigger than it has ever been.

But it is still rare for top gymnasts from international competitions to be on college gymnastics rosters.

I mean, statistically, who is?

I think they were just trying to show Lee some love because they are always pandering to Simone Biles.

Not everything is about titles. Lee became somewhat of a celebrity and brought attention to the sport.

It's about popularity. Not that hard to grasp.

I don't disagree, but she should have said that she put college gymnastics on the map, not SEC gymnastics.

Then say it's for college gymnastics, not the SEC.

I get what he means to an extent. Very few people, even followers of gymnastics, know how good the SEC is at the sport, especially Georgia.

Does it matter that much? I'm going to leave this profound discussion on some random thing some person said.

You can worry about it all you want. Have a good one..

So according to you LSU gymnastics wasn’t “on the map” until this year?

Also, she won the National championship her first year at Auburn on the beam.

She is the only individual medalist in US history to come out of NCAA gymnastics.

But she isnt the only olympic medalist to compete at the NCAAs. Its just that usually the girls are past their prime by the time they get halfway through college. They compete at 17 and 18 in the olympics, then go to college and their bodies are already spent. Back pain, knee pain, etc.

She didn’t really come out of NCAA gymnastics though. She came through Elite just like everyone else. Hell she had her gold medal before she even stepped foot on Auburns campus.

My bad. I see 3 uneven bar medalist that were on college teams back in the 2000s but that they were all medalist before attending college.

How about a simple "thank you Auburn for bringing our little sport into the mainstream"

I remember when Bama gym had some huge winning streak against Auburn and they constantly won championships. Problem is gymnastics still wasn't on the map for the fan. They might watch the championship but throughout the season the gym would be sparsely attended. Suni brought out the fans and the student section and the gym would get full unlike anything before.

So in a way the announcer is right.
