I submit the 2018 Ole Miss team which managed to go 5-7 and failed to even make a bowl game.

Was there a better group of elite NFL receivers on such a lousy SEC team than DJ Metcalf, AJ Brown, Elijah Moore, and tight end Dawson Knox? What a waste of talent.

2003 Alabama finished 4-9 and had a pretty stacked defensive line-up, many of whom were drafted and went on to play in the NFL:

Roman Harper
DeMeco Ryans
Charlie Peprah
Anthony Madison
Antwan Odom

I’ll always have a soft spot for Tre Mason somehow scraping a 1000 yard season out of 2012.

Great thread idea. I will go with the 2019 Bulldogs, under coach James Coley's fine direction our offense finished #50 in the country despite 7 NFL upperclassmen and 6 NFL underclassmen on the offensive two-deep. The defense carried that team to a ridiculous degree

Wake Forest, Indiana, and Michigan all finished higher. I hope to never see that many 3 & outs again

Chris Collinsworth from 1977-1980 teams that went 6-4-1, 4-7, 0-10-1, 8-4.
Emmitt Smith from 1987-1989 teams went 6-6, 7-5, 7-5.

We can only imagine if Emmitt had stayed on for Spurrier's first year in 1990.

Stat padded against Alabama to put him over the top, while Bama was playing walk-ons. I’ll forever be pissed that we let him do that.

Bama up 42-0 at halftime.

ETA: And it was the last play of the game that got him over the 1,000 yard mark. 0:11 seconds left, and he hit a 5 yard run to give him 1,002 yards on the season.

They should've beaten both FSU and Bama early in the season.

You’re thinking of a different team. They didn’t even play FSU and lost to Bama 62-7

You are 100% correct Tuscaloosa - good memory!

That 2018 Ole Miss team was so frustrating. We started the season 5-2 and picked up a tough win over Arkansas on the road. The very next game vs. Auburn, we played hard for 30 minutes, then got blown out in the second half and lost by two scores. We proceeded to lose our last five games of 2018 and finish 5-7, with no loss being more difficult to swallow than our overtime loss to Vanderbilt.

You already pointed it out, but we had a solid amount of NFL talent in 2018: AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Dawson Knox, Elijah Moore, CJ Moore, and Benito Jones have all seen significant time in the league.

What was even worse was the 0-5 finish in 2018 snowballed into 2019. We went 4-8 in 2019 before we fired Matt Luke, giving him a 4-13 record over his final seventeen games. It's the second worst stretch of football games we've had in 25 years, only behind Ed Orgeron's entire stint here.

It's the most egregious waste of talent in OM history. I still can't believe Phil Longo is employed as an OC. The Matt Luke era had the most apathy I've ever seen at OM.

Mike Evans and Myles Garrett. Maybe Jake Matthews. If we’re counting before 2012, Von Miller, Ryan Swope.

A consideration that the team was on probation and not eligible for post-season probably weighed on the psyche a little.

That being said, if you would bet against Ole Miss every conference game, you could've started w/ $10 grand and walked away w/ 2.5 million. We didn't cover a single game.

That is the winner. I would also add Patrick Willis. He played on some bad teams.

Felt a hell of a lot better about two of those Bama-OM offensive shootouts after seeing those guys flex on NFL secondary's.
