Will do this based on who I actually think are the best coaches instead of just purely resume
1. Tony Vitello
2. Jay Johnson
3. Schloss
4. O Sullivan
5. DVH
Honestly pretty hard to rank baseball coaches as the sport is so fickle.

A lot of solid/great coaches in the SEC
It’s probably easier to list the average/bad coaches in the SEC than to rank the good ones

He's deserving. But still needs to get the championship. Van Horn is the only non champion on my list. I just think you have to give VH credit for being so dominant and consistent in the SEC for the past two decades.

1) Vitello (elite motivator, world class recruiter, assembler of good assistant coaches, resourceful af, connects with younger generation, folks wanna be around him and play for him, swaggering confidence that rubs off on his program, no coach in America has stacked up more wins than him the past 4 seasons, both a natty and multi-time SEC champ)
2)Sully (Making it to Omaha more times than not plus his 2017 natty speaks for itself, should probably have more than one ring though by this point, at a school that will always attract baseball talent, recruits and signs ogres who always can drop like 475 feet bombs)
3) Johnson (natty at LSU in year two, took Arizona to Omaha MCWS final once, has every resource with LSU at his disposal to succeed, could easily move up all the way to first on the list with more postseason success and SEC/natty championships over these next 3 or 4 years, decent recruiter it seems from the outside looking in-although if you read TigerDroppings apparently some LSU folk are underwhelmed by his recruiting prowess but idk for sure if they have a point on that)
4) Corbin (yes I get he has two nattys and longest tourney streak in D1 currently, however him and his program have not been freaky scary good and talented like we all grew accustomed to from 08ish-2019ish since NIL era officially began coinciding with Tony V’s program beginning to attract his fair share of ELITE in state recruits Vandy once had a monopoly on, but Corbin is an all time legend in SEC coaching objectively speaking)
5)DVH (zero nattys, but a HOFer regardless, his career success overall has secured them a great stadium and a rabidly loyal baseball fanbase, but needs to start attracting elite assistants again like when he had Tony V running around recruiting for him and teaching his guys to hit, needs to figure out a way to better mentally prepare his boys for the games that “actually matter”, still though-Arky has had a lot of success with him despite the past 3 regional disasters)

Think about this, the SEC has 4 coaches with at least 2 natty appearances.
O Sullivan
Mainieri
Jay Johnson
Corbin

But tbh, literally ranking’ all 5 of those coaches on my list there seems sorta silly when you start to split the hairs. They all are pretty awesome in their own unique way.
Would probably put Ole Miss/aTm/UK coach in an interchangeable 6/7/8 slot
The wildcard to me is State’s coach. His resume befuddles. Won a natty like 3 or 4 years ago only to suddenly overnight become one of the worst baseball programs results wise each year since that lone natty. Not sure what to make of the baseball program in Starkville.

lol, I keep forgetting how Coach Mainieri is a thing again in SEC baseball. Just a wildly random hire by Tanner at USC (hell, if Tanner was hellbent on hiring old retired SEC baseball coaches who once had success, he shoulda just rehired himself tbh).

If PM is truly healthy and motivated (big if) he's easily a top 5 coach in the country. I'm not sure how he'll do navigating NIL and transfer portal but he's an elite baseball mind nonetheless.

Not discounting what he has done before. I mean, LSU frankly doesn’t win that 23 title without the Tre Morgan’s of the world recruited to LSU by Mainieri anchoring that formidable lineup complimenting the Skenes transfer.
It is just that, man, he sure seemed as done as done gets that last year at LSU when we knocked his team out of the Supers. His aura and vibes all that season reminded me a lot of Spurrier’s last season at Carolina where he was visibly oozing his readiness for retirement both on the sideline and at his pressers.

My main concern with Paul would be that he's 67.

He was at LSU for 15 years and coached 850 games there. That was the longest tenure of any coach other than Skip. The stress of that job takes its toll after a while. Maybe he has had time to reset and take another stab at it at USCe. We'll see.

Apparently his neck injury was more severe than we originally realized. It was not only affecting his ability to coach but also his day to day life. I don't think he would leave his home in BR unless he was fully healthy and motivated.
