SC hiring Paul is equivalent to the Les Miles hire by Kansas.

Good solid men(for the most part), understand how to build a great foundation for a program with quality success but really just past their prime as to what it takes to compete at the current level for a Championship.
Maybe In wrong, but I bet I’m not.

Not really Paul had supposedly retired.
This is more bizarre.

Maineri is a better baseball coach than Les is football coach

But the whole 66 thing

I mean a far as where they are in the careers and what they had accomplished prior to rehire.
I know Paul had a neck thing but there was pressure to move him on just like Les at the time.

If LSU had a coaching vacancy and hired Paul right now, would anyone on this board not completely melt??? It’s an odd hire but good for Paul if he feels like he is up for the job! Might have just missed it and was getting bored in retirement.

And South Carolina baseball is light years ahead of Kansas football

People worth pulling out of retirement:
John Wick
Chuck Norris.

Paul does not make the cut.

Les didn't suffer from poor physical health like PM.

Eh, who knows, guess his time away from baseball after multiple surgery/procedures have helped him heal where he feels he can handle the rigor of running a major program again. Maybe Tanner wants him to bring in a younger guy on staff with the intent of moving him up to HC in a few years. Guess Godwin is not going to get a shot at a major program. I wouldn't want to be 67 next season starting over in the most competitive league in college baseball.

But then he’d take over South Carolina Upstate, not the South Carolina Gamecocks, one of our peers at the top of college baseball

When I heard breaking news on radio and they mentioned his name… my first thought was that he passed away…not coaching again!

Correct. But the dude seemed burned out the last few years at LSU. Not sure another pressure cooker SEC job is what he needs.

Some people once they retire realize it's not as great as they thought it would be and want to go back to work. I know he had some health issues where he was constant pain that retirement was the best option so he must have got all that fixed. I hope he does good except when he plays LSU.

The only reason Paul “retired” is so he didn’t get fired by lsu. He didn’t have a choice in that retirement, lsu should’ve just fired him.

I would be irate if I was an SC fan. They are a top tier program, a good hire away from getting back to the top, and this is what you go with? Nothing but love for Mainieri, but I don’t see this working out well

If you're right about this then it means that Mainieri lied about it, Scott Woodward lied about it, Skip Bertman lied about it and Jay Johnson lied and continues to lie about it.

I'm going to go with their word over yours...
