The one year Grubb was an OC under someone other than DeBoer

2019 Fresno State, their qb had 15 tds and 11 ints. DeBoer is the offensive genius and that was his offense they ran at Washington last year. Freak out if you want but I’m not.

Me either
Hell, I used to get worked up over it bc Saban had so much turnover . Unless they are great recruiters too, it doesn’t bother me when the HC can take a side of the ball… now a coach like Dabo , it might be a problem

Not panicking, but Huff is big loss though. Really need to get a solid OL coach in here. And I know it’s Deboer’s offense, but not thrilled with the Rittenberg report of just hiring co-oc’s from internally, and letting Shephard call plays. I don’t think next year is the time for a first time play caller but we will see.

Not thrilled with losing Shepherd, either. Giving him an OC (or Co-OC) job would probably keep him here. It's DeBoer's offense, so he could likely make it work.

Yea it does. He hates Tuscaloosa apparently so frick him. Losing Huff is a killer. Those two were a lot of the reason I was excited for Deboer hire. Welp frick

I seriously don't care about losing a OC before he even calls one play. He basically never existed.

Yeah I’m not too worried about it. Most of the evidence points to DeBoer being the one who elevated Grubb, not the other way around.
Also, any assistant that can get a shot in the NFL for similar money is probably going to take it. With all the bullshite in cfb right now, it’s a no brainer.

At least Grubb came and recruited for the DeBoer program during a critical time. It is a testament to DeBoer's relationship with his coaches that two guys who wanted to stay in the PNW came down here and did the work to keep this roster and recruiting class mostly together.

2019 when grubb was oc before deboer got there, Fresno State was 70th in passing offense. In 2020 and 21 when deboer was there too, they jumped up to 5th and 9th, improved over 100yd/game. It's just the instability that sucks, and of course possibly losing huff. I hope he goes and gets the Missouri oc Moore, who was the wr and passing game coordinator at Fresno in 2020 and 2021. And he's only making $1.2m at Missouri

Bad take.
Saban wanted him and so did Deboer. He's a big deal.

Saban also wanted Pete Golding, Bill O’Brien, Doug Nussmeier…
Grubb may indeed be a big deal but your logic is flawed.

quote:facts are never a bad take. Grubb as oc without deboer, 70th in passing offense. Next season grubb with deboer, 5th in passing offense. Of course deboer wanted grubb, he's intimately familiar with the system and is a good play caller, but it's DeBoer's system. The only data point there is of grubb without deboer indicates that deboer is what's driving it.

Huff is less replaceable than grubb. Let's go get the Missouri oc, who's from the deboer coaching tree and took Missouri from 91st in passing offense to 38th in one year. He was the passing game coordinator those 2 years of great offense in Fresno.

Pandy Fackler: I agree Grubb is good BUT he is getting an NFL OC job in the PNW. That's the route (out of the college mess) he wanted and, as has been mentioned, his wife leans way left and would not be a good fit in the conservative South. Happy wife, happy life. Bama, don't try to control what you can't control. So, suck it up and move forward.

You trying to say she wants to get drive-thru abortions and reestablish CHAZ or something?

In my old age I’m learning not to stress and freak out over things I can’t control and even more so on trivial matters like who coaches Alabama’s offense.
College football is a messy, cutthroat business especially at coaching turnover time. Hell, the hiring of Shula’s replacement was a 40-day shite show, with the Rich Rod and Rita drama and Saban being forced to answer every day if he was coming to Bama. Turned out okay.
It will all shake out and be fine in the end. Grubb is not the only good OC in America. It’s DeBoer’s offense anyway. Bama OC is a great job and usually a stepping stone to HC opportunities and we can pay top dollar. He’ll get someone good.
