re: The one year Grubb was an OC under someone other than DeBoer

DeBoer was the OC at fresno prior to grubb being the OC. in 2016 fresno was 84th in passing offense and 125th in scoring offense. in 2017 deboer as OC took them to 58th in passing offense and 77th in scoring offense, and then in 2018 they improved again to 29th in passing offense and 26th in scoring offense. Grubb was to OL coach at fresno at this time

in 2019 Deboer went to indiana and grubb took over as OC for one season. Fresno dropped down to 70th in passing offense and 58th in scoring offense that year. Then deboer returned as head coach in 2020 and fresno immediately jumped up to 5th in passing offense and 36th in scoring offense, and then were at 9th in passing offense and 26th in scoring offense in 2021.

When DeBoer went to indiana in 2019 as OC, indian went from 36th in passing offense and 88th in scoring offense in 2018 to 15th in passing offense and 42nd in scoring offense.

The one year deboer wasnt with grubb, fresno dropped off on offense, then jumped way up again when deboer came back.

Whereas the offense improved massively under deboer at every move regardless of if he was OC or HC, and regardless of if grubb was there or not.

Also, it does sucks if we lose huff, but he was only with deboer the 2 years in washington so hes not a long term system guy, just a great ol coach. it would not be surprising for him to take a job where he didnt have to move his family or mess with recruiting. But check this out, part of what made the washington OL so great in 22 and 23 was the system. Washington was allowing and average of 1.72 sacks per game the previous seasons with huff as OL coach (i throw out 2020 where they only allowed 1 sack for .25/game but they only played 4 games that year). When DeBoer took over in 2020, they instantly improved to allowing only .54 sacks/game in 2022 and only .80 sacks/game in 23. The deboer offensive system is very OL friendly because its not asking them to protect for 4 seconds all the time. ball comes out quick most of the time. DeBoer has all kinds of connections, im sure he will find good replacements if need be

looking at huff back further, if you look at the last 8 years (excluding the 2020 year) going to the 2013 season his OL have averaged 1.83 sacks per game. if you go back 4 more years to include the absurd stat years of 2009-2012 at boise where they didnt allow more than .69/game in that stretch, the average is still 1.42 sacks per game. So deboer's scheme contributed considerably to the great sack numbers at washington the last 2 seasons, easily beating the huff coached line average over the years prior to deboer and huff on the same staff

I believe it could work out fine with Sheridan and Sheppard as co-OCs. I still think the OL coach is bigger it Huff is indeed leaving too.
